Brazil's National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan includes the goal of conserving 80% of the Brazilian Amazon by 2030. It is easy to announce targets, but another thing to achieve them. I hope that Brazil succeeds. 🌍

Elder is prob the very best cavity-bearing shrub, far better than hawthorn, hazel, blackthorn (very poor). Important nesting shrub for Marsh Tits & Willow Tits, but only if left to develop old trunks and cavities, not cut. Like Hazel, they self-coppice without management, with new growth from base.

Here are some illustrations I created for the Biodivhubs project, showcasing measures to promote biodiversity in gardens. They're currently featured on signs in gardens across Munich and will soon be part of a catalog we're working on. Excited to share more soon!

In April 2023 we made a pond in our garden in southeast Hampshire. In spring 2024 three male Common Frogs turned up but no females arrived. This evening we have eight male Common Frogs, hopefully some females will arrive soon! Also our first Smooth Newt this evening too.

Here are a few photos from a fabulous trip to Australia back in November 2024. I loved being in such a megadiverse country with so many amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals. Even the centre of Brisbane city was teaming with wildlife.
