#GenHour - Question/Conundrum for US genealogists: My great-aunt was born in NYC in 1921 so according to NYC, as a great-niece, I'm allowed to get her birth cert. However, since she died out-of-state (NJ), they need her OG death cert. AFAIK, I can't get her death cert b/c I'm not next-of-kin. Help?

I discovered this yesterday for my research #AncestryHour: Bad news: I'm trying to get the birth certs for my mat. GPs, both died in not their birth state. Michigan says give us a copy of the death cert. NYC says give us the *original* death cert. Me: I don't have an original of either! 1/3

1. I'm horrified. 2. After I read this, this article reminded me of my grandfather's brother-in-law who was taken off the streets of Vienna in May 1938 with nothing but the clothes on his back for the crime of being Jewish & was sent to Dachau (& later Buchenwald). This is the 1930s all over again.
