‘Most of the time the universe speaks to us very quietly in pockets of silence, in coincidences, in nature, in forgotten memories, in the shape of clouds, in moments of solitude, in small tugs at our hearts.’ Yumi Sakugawa

mary ruefle was right when she said that people would rather read an essay about poetry than read a poem. it reminds me of when people in a museum read the explanatory caption before having their own experience of the art. you fear not "getting it" when you should fear not living

Beautiful bijou LEONORA CARRINGTON exhibition (THE SYMPTOMATIC SURREAL) at London’s Freud Museum yesterday. Carrington’s drawings (sketched during the time she spent in a Spanish sanatorium) are ghostly and ethereal. DOWN BELOW (1940) is also on display - so haunting and surreal.

I’ve dreamed a lot. I’m tired now from dreaming but not tired of dreaming. No one tires of dreaming, because to dream is to forget, & forgetting does not weigh on us, it is a dreamless sleep throughout which we remain awake. In dreams I have achieved everything. ~ F. Pessoa (1920) J. Playa

Marilyn reads Jame Joyce during a photoshoot break. Not staged by photog Eve Arnold, who was shooting an iconic sexpot series of MM. Marilyn was a voracious reader, and kept this copy of Ulysses in her car. She read it a little at a time. Her personal library had over 400 books when she died.
