Midnight Diner (Japanese 2009-14) IMDB rating: 8.6 Seasons 1-3 On Prime Sweet, sometimes funny, sometimes a bit raunchy. Such a charming little series about a man who runs a small Tokyo diner which opens at midnight and the people who patronize it. Great palate cleanser before bedtime.

Fauda (Israeli 2015-) IMDB rating: 8.4 Currently on Netflix A remarkable series focused on an anti-terrorist unit of the IDF. Starring Lior Raz (a huge favorite of mine) and featuring a great cast. The writing is tight and treats both sides of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict fairly. Great show!

Zero is perhaps my favorite band you've probably never heard of. The band is a collection of superb musicians, led by the extraordinary guitarist Steve Kimock. Jazz, rock, blues, you name it. This recent album features excerpts from a weekend at Great American Music Hall in SF in 1992. Killer!

Not many people may see it, but I'm going to start posting about some of my favorite foreign TV shows discovered mostly during the pandemic. Also the occasional music to which many people haven't been exposed. I'll begin with a real favorite: Gommorah (Italian 2014-21) IMDB rating: 8.6 Now on MAX

Gommorah is a series about drug gangs in Naples, but also so much more. A fantastic story told and shot beautifully. The cast is phenomenal and immediately engaging and the writing is superb. There is also a a movie denouement, a la Deadwood and Breaking Bad. I can't recommend this highly enough!
