Today the theme for #BirdOfTheDay is #migration. Going widescreen on this: visited Cape Tourmente last week, where snow geese are gathering for their migration. Basically out of reach for my camera, but I found the sheer numbers already impressive, even though the peak is still weeks away

I know we're having a storm surge warning in place, but I don't think I can remember ever hearing the sirens for that from the harbour while in my flat. My guess, someone pushed the wrong button, because the 'all clear' siren came 5 minutes later.

Turned around in bed once more after shutting off that 7 o’clock alarm (which shouldn’t have gone off anyway), and suddenly it’s 10 a.m. Oops. Might be slightly jetlagged after all 😬

Waiting for luggage. No need to worry though, nobody has gotten theirs yet, it’s just a single suitcase riding around on the carousel 😂

Landed in hamburg, hooray. As it’s a public holiday, will pick up some food here to take home, then try to stay awake until at least 7/8ish tonight, so I don’t screw up my sleep cycle completely.

Last minute check: sum spent for all souvenirs is still below limit for customs/tax free shopping. Not by much, but I can just about buy something stupid like maple syrup products at the airport 😂

Not me missing that STM strike completely, and walking back 40 minutes to my hotel, because metro and buses only ran during rush hour. Thankfully I did not go to the botanic gardens for the spectacle of lights tonight, that would have been about 3 times the distance 😂

Feeling better than yesterday, even tho the oncoming cold turned into an actual one. So, back on my feet, spent nearly 6 hours at Montreal botanical gardens. Birdwatching, of course, and saw a few of those I had been hoping for. All very common (Robins, nuthatches…), but different from home

At Marché Jean-Talon. Did the necessary souvenir shopping for the family (basically, all things maple syrup). Time to sit down and have some poutine. #montreal #canada

Arrived at the last of my hotels for this trip. Pretty tired after a day on the road (Tadoussac to Quebec by car, with a birdwatching stop at Cap Tourmente), then the train Quebec-Montreal. Also might have caught a cold. *sniffles* Too early for bed though, going to explore around the area a bit

Already back from Tadoussac 😭 Last leg of the journey, now on the train to Montreal. Also, have reached the „checking 2 bags/suitcases“ stage of the journey, after buying the odd souvenir over the last 10 days.

Drove from Quebec City to Tadoussac today. Google said 3.5 hours, took me 5. Not driving max speed on that road, with 11% inclines, moose warnings everywhere. Sometimes felt like video game driving, esp. when you can’t see how the road continues until shortly before reaching the top of a hill 😳

Almost time to leave #Quebec City already, just tonight left. In hindsight, I cold have shortened time in Toronto, and stayed here longer. But you never quite know in advance, I guess… Will pick up my tental car tomorrow, then a 3.5 hour drive (with some scenic stops along the way) 🙂

It’s raining so much that the Ghost Tour company has offered to reschedule. New evening plan: find a place close to the hotel for a delicious dinner.

Good deed of the day- helped a Chinese group out with 40 cents, when they were trying to pay part of their food in US Cents. Their translation programme didn’t help when the cashier explained that they only take canadian money, and this wasn’t that.

Rainy day in Quebec. Still did a self-guided walk and some shopping this morning, lunch now. Delicious smoked salmon bagel. Off to the Musee de la Civilisation next, before I’m going back to the hotel for a bit and change into dry socks before another ghost walk tonight.

My train is waiting for a passing freight train at the moment, so we’re going at an extremely slow pace, good photo opportunity. Fall colours are slooowly starting to show themselves. #quebec

Train to Ottawa yesterday, chatted to my neighbor, a lovely older lady. Unfortunately the city greeted me with very rainy weather, shoes are still drying. But, there are some excellent museums here, so I spent the afternoon at the Canadian Museum of History, mainly in the First Peoples Hall

Train to Niagara Falls is the Amtrak that goes on to New York. One of those silver ones you know from the movies. And built to make sure nobody goes over their luggage allowance. Or tries to board with any kind of physical limitation. Those steps at the entrance are insane. 😳
