Why you should visit St Mary's Church in Conwy... Stunning medieval gem in the heart of a medieval town

After the siege of Meaux (1422), prisoners were sent across England & Wales: 12 went to Conwy Castle! Harlech – 30 Caernarfon – 20 Rhuddlan – 20 Even 3 men from the siege of Harfleur (1415) were still locked in Conwy 8 years later!

Parlwr Mawr I’ve posted before about the sad demise of Parlwr Mawr. facebook.com/share/p/1BsaXA… It was a building with medieval origins on Chapel Street and home to John Williams, who was Archbishop of York in the 17th century. Sadly, it was demolished in the 1950s.

Years ago, I was lucky enough to see the stunning Mappa Mundi in Hereford Cathedral - a marvellous medieval treasure! But it does highlight the problem with place names. There have been many versions of 'Conwy' over the centuries. Here, Conwy looks like Cumweb! Old photos so not the best.

Couldn’t sleep, so I ended up going through some headstone photos from St Mary’s Churchyard in Conwy. Found the grave of John Thomas, his wife Jane, and their son Richard. I also came across their death notices in the local papers. Jane’s notice says she died on 26 Feb, but the headstone says 27th.

Today I was the wandering historian, entertaining judges from Britain in Bloom. Had a fabulous time! Well done to all the volunteers in Conwy in Bloom. The town looked stunning!

I've just absolutely had mind blown by The Wallace Collection. This place is phenomenal!!!

Clifford's Tower, York Clifford’s Tower is the surviving keep of York Castle. The first castle was built by William the Conqueror in the 1060s. The current stone structure dates from the 13th century, built under the reign of Henry III.

Finally got to visit Lost Souls Pizza and it was epic! Happy Days!

Winchester Palace Founded in the 12th century by Bishop Henry de Blois, brother of King Stephen, the palace was built to house the Bishops of Winchester during their visits to London on royal and administrative business. What you see today is part of the Great Hall.
