Last night I closed out my visit with the Hawai'i State Teachers Association by hearing from members across the islands. Hearing from educators across the country is the heart of this job, and the work we do together.

How incredible it was to visit Pūʻōhala Elementary, a Hawai’ian immersion school on Oahu! I heard traditional songs from students, toured classrooms, and learned about their working garden. Mahalo to all of the educators teaching this beautiful—and essential—language and culture.

While visiting Oahu, I was glad to join the team at @hawaiinewsnow.com for an important conversation about the challenges Hawaii educators are facing today.

For generations, birthright citizenship has embodied the promise at the heart of America: that every child born here can grow, contribute, and pursue their dreams without limitation. The Supreme Court must reject Trump's effort to undermine constitutional rights or strip away fundamental freedoms.

The educators at King Kamehameha III Elementary, housed now in temporary buildings, are a living testament to resilience. But educators shouldn’t be forced to stand in the gaps during crises—they need and deserve support.

Today began with an early morning flight to Maui, and a visit to the site of King Kamehameha III Elementary, which burned during the Maui fires of 2023. Recovery is a long road for these educators, students, and families.

Today is Transgender Day of Visibility 🏳️‍⚧️ All students deserve to be their authentic selves in the classroom—and to be supported and celebrated for who they are. Any politician who thinks otherwise has no place in making decisions about the lives of our students.

I am on my way to visit my colleagues at the Hawaii State Teachers Association, and hear directly from members who have faced untold challenges in the form of Maui's fires, Oahu's flooding, and more. This week, I'll be sharing their stories.

Students deserve dignity, safety, and a chance to thrive—no matter who they are or how they pray. Instead of fully funding schools and respecting our rights, some politicians spew anti-Muslim hate—hoping we blame each other and ignore their failures.   We demand our leaders do right by all of us.

Nothing is more precious than a child. And nothing is more worthy of support and funding than that child's education. Fully fund public schools.

Yesterday, I witnessed a moment that will echo far beyond a single day. Millions rose up on #NoKings Day to demand the country our students deserve. We're standing up for a future we all want to live in.

Today marks #EqualPayDay—the day this year that women's earnings finally catch up to men's from the year before. It is unacceptable that the gap remains so wide in 2026. We can—and must—do more to end pay inequality.

A guiding light, a visionary leader, a personal mentor. The labor movement lost an unflappable advocate, and I lost an irreplaceable friend. As president of IEA, then NEA, Reg Weaver supported and inspired me for many years—he will have an impact on me, and many of us, for countless years to come.

Faith leaders so often spearhead the important work in our communities. That is why I was honored to be in North Carolina this morning, alongside my @wearencae.bsky.social colleagues to speak at this prayer breakfast, inviting faith leaders join the fight for our public schools as moral anchors.

As a nana, I want my grandbabies to have an honest, accurate education—without censorship, whitewashing, or bias. As an educator for more than thirty years, I want that for all students. Anything less is harmful to students.

On this day last year, the president signed an executive order to dismantle the Department of Education. But we fought on behalf of our students. And we will continue fighting to ensure they get the education that they need and deserve—no matter what Donald Trump and Linda McMahon pull next.

Instead of focusing on the affordability crisis, the politicians pushing the SAVE America Act are spending their time trying to rig the system—all so they can hold on to power. Our democracy belongs to us, not to politicians, and certainly not to billionaires. We must reject this legislation.

The SAVE America Act is a voter suppression scam. It would take away the rights of working people to make their voices heard at the ballot box. The Senate must reject this bill.

The so-called SAVE act is an attack on our freedom to vote and a danger to our democracy. Our democracy is strongest when all eligible voters are empowered to participate.

Connecting with educators across this country has always been the most inspiring part of my job.

"Struggle is a never-ending process. Freedom is never really won; you earn it and win it in every generation.” Coretta Scott King, understood that the fight for freedom is never over. So too do we.

Helping students think for themselves, build community, and believe they can shape the future—that’s the purpose of public education. Kicking off #NEASummit, @neapresident.bsky.social#NEASummitBecky Pringle shared a powerful reminder of what educators make possible every day.

At NEA's Leadership Summit, I shared teacher-turned-activist Brittany Packnett Cunningham's words, “Everything I get up and do every day… I’m always trying to make sure that it is in service of the thing I can most radically dream.” When educators come together, we can achieve anything we dream.

We deserve to go to school, practice our faith, and live our lives in peace and safety. Yesterday’s violence at Temple Israel in West Bloomfield and Old Dominion University is devastating. We grieve with those communities and reject this violence and hate.

Ask any educator, and they will confirm this: the key to student success is fully and equitably funded schools.

This week, when I spoke at #ISTP2026, I promised: American educators will not turn their back on the world. Educators across the globe are stronger when we are united for a better future.

It has never been more important that our students receive the robust civic education that they deserve. Today's children are tomorrow's engaged, empowered voters!

March is Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month, a call to celebrate and empower each and every student, regardless of ability or disability status. This is why it is so critical that we have dedicated professionals within the Department of Education upholding students' rights through IDEA.

Today marks International Women's Day, a critical reminder of the work that must be done across the globe to eradicate inequality—and empowering women through organized labor is a powerful way to do just that.

It is so heartening to speak at NEA's Higher Ed Conference this weekend—with hundreds of educators from 20 states, representing HBCUs and other MSIs and more! Here I see such resilience. In the face of attacks on academic freedom, these leaders have defended their students and their profession.
