Whether it is a church, a synagogue, or a mosque, all places of worship should be safe—no exceptions. Anti-Muslim hate has no home in our communities. All students, including those at the Al Rashid School, deserve to learn and worship without fear. We will not stop advocating for that future.

Today marks the anniversary of the Brown v Board of Education decision. Seventy-two years later, we are so far from the equitable, justice-centered school system that our students truly deserve. We will never stop fighting for it.

Today is #WorldESPDay! Education support professionals—bus drivers, paraprofessionals, cafeteria workers, custodians, and more—absolutely power our schools. They should be respected—and paid!—like the essential staff that they are. There is no education without ESPs.

Virginia’s public-sector bargaining ban is rooted in a Jim Crow-era effort to silence Black workers at the University of Virginia Hospital who organized for fair pay and dignity. Now, Gov. Spanberger taking away a seat at the table for millions of Virginian workers is a profound disappointment.

We are coming to the end of #TeacherAppreciationWeek, but teachers' work never ends—and the appreciation shouldn't either. To ensure that our classrooms are stocked, our buildings are safe, and our colleagues are supported, we need community members to support public education all year long.

Today is Black Teacher Appreciation Day, and I had the honor of meeting Ms. Moore of Greencastle Elementary, who has been teaching for more than half a century. It is so important to have a diverse force of educators in our schools, so all students can see themselves in their mentors.

It is #TeacherAppreciationWeek! As an educator for more than thirty years, I know how dedicated my fellow teachers are—and it never ceases to amaze me. This week, and all weeks, thank you for everything that you do.

May is Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, but every month is a good time to incorporate AANHPI histories and stories into the classroom. All students benefit from learning from each other, and sharing our diverse cultures.

The nation’s largest union stands shoulder to shoulder with every worker fighting for more than just getting by—because our collective fights are one struggle. We march today, organize tomorrow, and vote, because our power comes from workers uniting, organizing, and winning together.

This #MayDay, we are gathering in solidarity to defend what makes our families and communities whole—and to fight for what helps them thrive. From public schools to basic dignity, we refuse to let billionaires write the rules at our expense. #WorkersOverBillionaires

Tomorrow marks #SchoolLunchHeroDay, and now more than ever—as this administration slashes funding to hunger programs—cafeteria workers are truly heroes for students and families.

When students' learn about each others' heritage and culture, we are all better off. Today we close out Arab American Heritage Month, but these resources and materials are available any time to enrich lesson plans and support students.

Educators teach students that voting is a responsibility of citizenship—and a right we must uphold. People died to protect and advance this right. Today the Supreme Court attacked it. This decision reverses decades of progress and voting rights precedent designed to ensure equal representation.

This is the union difference. When working people take collective action, their lives are improved. We must advocate for higher educator pay in the halls of power—and also take action and organize in our school buildings.

Raising the minimum wage is long overdue—and would lift countless working families out of poverty. Thank you, Representatives Delia Ramirez and Analilia Mejia, for introducing a bill to raise the minimum wage to $25/hour and tackle this critical issue.

Every day, dedicated educators inspire, support, and lift up their students—but too many educators are struggling to support themselves and their families. Educators deserve pay that reflects their expertise and stay in the profession they love. Period.

Political violence is always unacceptable and must be condemned unequivocally. What happened at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner last night cannot become the norm. We must urgently reject the vitriol poisoning our public discourse and threatening the safety of our communities.

To Sheridan Education Association members, and to all workers advocating for the conditions you deserve: hold the line.

Civil rights organizations work to ensure we can live free from discrimination. By indicting a group that fights bias and tracks extremists, Trump’s Department of Justice is abusing its power, making us less safe. They will stop at nothing to crush free speech and further hate. We won't be silent.

During an era that will go down in the history as a time of cruelty and chaos and crisis, it is crystal clear that education in America, the American labor movement, and we—the American people—have the power to right the ship. We must continue to resist.

Today begins #NationalLibraryWeek—we can all agree that libraries and librarians are essential. For learning, for growing, for thriving. Every student deserves a fully-stocked, fully-funded, fully-staffed library in their neighborhood public school.

Teachers nurture students. They inspire their growth. They encourage their passions. Nothing can replace the spark between a dedicated educator and their students—and AI never will.

Nothing can replace the human connection between educators and their students. And as I discussed with labor leaders on Capitol Hill today, decisions about technology in schools and workplaces must put people first.

April is #NationalSchoolLibraryMonth, and it should go without saying that school libraries are crucial, indispensable places of learning. Every school deserves a fully-staffed library—well-stocked with books that will change students' lives.

Trump’s budget makes this much clear: he has utterly abandoned working Americans. Gutting funding for full-service community schools. Slashing funding for teacher quality partnerships. Increasing funding for ICE. If his budget becomes reality, students and families will suffer.

There is no doubt that the work of educators is transformative—for their students and communities. This was evident everywhere in Hawai'i. In discussions with members, meetings with lawmakers—inside the classroom and out. Anywhere in the country, public schools are at the center of communities.

Last night I closed out my visit with the Hawai'i State Teachers Association by hearing from members across the islands. Hearing from educators across the country is the heart of this job, and the work we do together.

How incredible it was to visit Pūʻōhala Elementary, a Hawai’ian immersion school on Oahu! I heard traditional songs from students, toured classrooms, and learned about their working garden. Mahalo to all of the educators teaching this beautiful—and essential—language and culture.

For generations, birthright citizenship has embodied the promise at the heart of America: that every child born here can grow, contribute, and pursue their dreams without limitation. The Supreme Court must reject Trump's effort to undermine constitutional rights or strip away fundamental freedoms.
