As a US Atty, I prosecuted and oversaw police excessive force cases. We took them seriously because they were serious abuses of power. What we're seeing now is the outbreak of an epidemic & instead of being condemned by fed'l law enforcement leaders, it seems to be tolerated if not encouraged.

Trump wants you to think he’s broken the rule of law. But that’s not true. Guardrails still exist, starting with grand juries, which are declining to indict criminal cases that are lacking. We need to remember the Constitution puts power in other hands for a reason. It’s time to use it.

As has been noticed a lot, CBP, and now ICE, seem to be about men who want to project some kind of image rather than act as people who conduct themselves as professional law or immigration enforcement. @iwriteok.bsky.social has done some in depth reporting/podcasts on the history.

Every year on Memorial Day, I share this video of French caretakers who take sand from Omaha Beach in Normandy, and scrub them into the letters to give them the gold coloring. They do this for all 9,386 US soldiers who died. France also gave us this land as American soil.
