Four of my favourite reads last year. I'd have rated them all 6 stars if I could. Truly masterpieces of their genres. The Daughters' War is gripping and gritty, with terrifying goblins. The Empire of the Damned is Kristoff at his best - heart-poundingly good.

Gladiator 2 thoughts: Entertaining throughout, but without the heart and vitality of the original. Some great moments, and some very poor moments, most notably stemming from clunky dialogue. With a few key changes would’ve had potential to be phenomenal. 6.5/10
