I don’t see a world where Q’linn isn’t Light Bowgun - he’s a ranged attacker at heart, and the ammo types give him a lot of options to approach which he’d love. Switch Axe is most accurate to Erien, especially with the elemental aspect, but she has the heart of a Hammer user as well.

A Pastoral Love

Erien has seen much of Coerthas/Dravania as the Scions’ liaison to House Fortemps, lives in Sharlayan and fights in Bozja during ShB. Nozari meanwhile is an Ishgardian resident, helps the Resistance in Ala Mhigo and joins the WoLs’ trip to Tural. Neither have ever left the Source or Etheirys.

Q'linn, a kid from one of the territories with no formal education, approaching Nero's level of mechanical proficiency is a bigger blow to his ego than Cid doing the same. The first time they worked together in Omega, Q'linn openly stole his tech. The two have been butting heads ever since. (cont.)

Wind-up Q'linn comes with a tiny wrench it spins around in its hand! Q'linn thinks it's cute and an impressive piece of goldsmithing, but wonders why Tataru sent them to production - there won't be much of a market for his image. Josephine bought twelve of them.

Q’linn’s five-man free company - himself, Josephine, Samson, Darling and Draconis - are the five Warriors of Light, equally sharing that title in their story. From beginning to end, they’ve weathered it all as a team.

In DT I'm starting to diverge more (Q'linn isn't part of the Dawnservant trials, there's a fake Azem floating around), but prior to that I've been colouring inside the lines with little extra world details and the occasional cameo from side content. Ahewann doesn't die though because that was dumb.

Locke the anima spirit has been Q'linn's main companion since the HW relics! I also make a habit of collecting all the machina/vehicle mounts I can get, saying they're all things Q'linn has built, been gifted or stolen. The Regalia is the most prominent, as the WoLs' main transport for years now.

I doubt I’d be a combat job - possibly Arcanist just to have a little carby buddy - but out of the rest Alchemist sounds the most fun! Potions in FFXIV seems applicable everywhere so it’d be a job with variety. Hopefully in a different city though, as I would not deal with the Ul’dah heat well XD

While I am doing additional stuff in my headcanon with Azem in DT, I won’t pretend that Q’linn’s aversion to most things Ancient wasn’t *slightly* inspired by my dislike of how much they dominate the plot in ShB and EW.

Q’linn and his wife Josephine are Joe’linn, plain and simple. We also mutated the ship name into the name for their future child, Jolene.

Q’linn makes time to check in with the twins whenever he can, and often Lyse or Thancred will drag him out of the workshop for sparring and drinks respectively. He also spends more time with Y’shtola after 5.3, though they’re equal workaholics and their hangouts look more like consultations.

Considering he ran away from his tribe as a child because he was terrified of becoming that exact kind of person? Try *really* hard to stay calm and polite as he rebukes the accusation while also trying to blow the person’s head up with his mind.

Q’linn once tried to build a laser sight for his rifle; the first time he tested it, he reacted the same as a cat does to a laser pointer, and ended up wrecking his workshop while “blacked out.” He thanks the Twelve often that nobody was around to see it.

I headcanon that country boy Estinien secretly has an *egregiously* thick Southern accent that he’s been masking since he got into the Temple Knights and started mimicking Aymeric’s to blend in.

All the job quests are split between one of the four WoLs. Q'linn handled ShB Phys DPS and EW Tank; the latter has more tension between him and Kan-e-Senna over Gridania and the Elementals, leading to a falling out. I've also replaced some of the EW NPCs with those from other side content: (cont.)

Q’linn shares an apartment in Gridania with his sister that he stays at instead of the Carline Canopy, though is still a good friend of Miounne’s. He and the other WoLs also have lodgings in Fortemps Manor during Heavensward, until they build their Firmament estate after 3.3.

Q’linn would try to better equip them for whatever the quest is, and whether they accept or not he follows behind in secret to provide support. Depending on the situation, *maybe* he waits for them to realise they’re in over their heads before stepping in - but before any get seriously hurt.

Since an earthquake trapped him in the Palace of the Dead as a teen, Q’linn gets anxiety being anywhere deep down below - Amaurot and Tamamizu set it off quite badly, and he won’t return to either unless it were life or death. He did return to the Palace later in life, to try and conquer that fear.

In Ultima Thule, Q’linn was able to use the dynamis-enhanced Stone of Azem to summon a replica of the G-Warrior. Piloted by all the Warriors of Light, the mech fought the Endsinger alongside Shinryu in an additional phase before the actual trial’s first.

Gyr Abania, Garlemald and the Twelveswood/Gelmorra are my big three, in descending order of want. While I loved SB it felt a little too eager to get out of Ala Mhigo at times, I would have gladly cut the Moon or Elpis for a second Ilsabard zone, and Gridania still has a lot left unresolved.

#wolqotd #wolquestion Is your WoL/OC a member of a Grand Company? What drew them to sign up, and do they have a bond with their Squadron? Or would they rather cast their lot with another nation (Ishgard, Ala Mhigo, Doma etc.), or remain unaffiliated?

Q'linn is terrible at magic and aether manipulation (recent Azem developments nonwithstanding). All of his non-MCH combat jobs are extensions of MCH reliant on some kind of magitek device: power gauntlets (MNK), recharging gunblade cartridges (GNB) or a drone possessed by his anima companion (SCH).

The Warriors of Light move into their Ishgard estate during the Restoration (right after 3.3), though in-canon it's in the Firmament rather than Empyreum. Aymeric offered them land in the city as a gift, but they insisted on a fair, anonymous bid - they even did much of the construction themselves!

Q’linn having his teenage/early 20’s dating experiences as an Ala Mhigan in Gridania was… not fun. A lot of the attention he got was less from genuine connections and more people looking to anger their traditionalist families.

He does pity them, but Emet-Selch’s insistence that his standards should be held over the current people dredged up bad memories for Q’linn and quickly made him enemy #1. This resulted him losing his temper with Hades in Elpis, as well as a low-level resentment of his connection to Azem overall.

All side content so far *has* been done, though split between the four WoLs and others. Q’linn has done ShB Phys & EW Healer Role Quests, all Restorations, crafting Societies (+Kobold, Vath & Ananta), Custom Deliveries for Zhole, Ehll Tou & Ameliance, and been part of Werlyt and all pre-EW Raids.

i am once again asking if you know that if you routinely sing to a cat while they're curled up on your chest they will learn that singing means cuddle time and come trotting over from wherever they are when you do. it's important that we get this message out to those who need it most

Ilberd was a cruel man who betrayed and killed his friends - Q’linn could never *truly* sympathise with him. But equally, at the time of Stormblood he struggles to see a world where the Grand Companies lift a finger to help Ala Mhigo if he hadn’t done what he did.

Q’linn has hang-ups with the Elementals that keep him away from White Mage, as well as a lack of talent in magic barring him from most healers and casters. He’s only able to use Scholar via a magitek proxy, and Pictomancer thanks to Azem reasons.

Their numbers wax and wane with the passing of the years, but it was the Union of the Five - Q'linn, Josephine, Darling, Samson and Draconis - who first fought back against the Ultima Weapon. When the Source is in need, her Warriors of Light will be there.

Right now, in early Dawntrail. The world's at peace, he's retired from adventuring, and just married the love of his life. They're enjoying their honeymoon in Tural while crossing paths here and there with their fellow WoLs and Scions in Wuk Lamat's journey.

Kind of the opposite: Erien is non-WoL who I've been thinking about pairing up with Y'shtola from 6.1 onwards, so whenever she's popping her head in and out of MSQ going forwards I plan to have them do so as a pair.

Erien in FFXIV actually is the alt version of her D&D counterpart! Her custom job is an emulation of the Eldritch Knight. D&D Erien has also had a much happier love life, with a partner she’s planning to propose to while her FFXIV alt is only just getting back into dating after losing Haurchefant.

Distract, disorient and seize an opening. Q’linn will spend as much of a fight getting his enemy into the right position as he’ll spend attacking. Lures, flash bombs, feints and distractions. Some might call it “fighting dirty,” but to him it’s fighting smart.

Teen Q’linn was homeless and stole to get by. He played up the persona of a dashing, flirty rogue to help him seem more confident, try to worry less about when his next meal was coming in. *Definitely* cringe at times, but I think he’d forgive himself given the circumstances.

The worst Q’linn can claim is a whole lot of theft and swindling, though that mostly targeted Garleans during the occupation. Nozari went on to continue that career. Erien made a scene at Haurchefant’s funeral, screaming how many of Fortemps waited until the man died to say a kind word about him.

As kids, any time Q’linn and Nozari made enough money off their scams to afford it, they’d go to this one eatery in Ala Mhigo and split a large bowl of griffin meat stew. It’s still his #1 comfort food today, and the first thing he orders when celebrating a victory.

Just outside Quarrymill. The earthquake that wracked through the Shroud opened fissures in the land, Q’linn and Nozari both sent tumbling deep beneath the earth. They spent three weeks trapped in a Gelmorran ruin, now called the Palace of the Dead, living off monster flesh before rescue arrived.

For Y’shtola, he starts just after they return from the First - and she’s since returned the gesture. G’raha? I honestly don’t know. He’s remarkably earnest, ticks all Q’linn’s boxes for a friend. But if he’d come clean about his plan before Mt Gulg, Q’linn would still have both eyes.

We're going maximum cozy on this one. Q'linn usually dresses in something thinner, but since he moved to Ishgard thicker clothes became necessary to deal with the cold. Over the years he's warmed up to it! (pun intended)

Aulus was originally supposed to be the vessel for Fandaniel. He has voiced lines in his fight despite being a dungeon mid-boss, as well as unique gear, suggesting a cut larger role. The same tech he develops is used again in In From The Cold, and he’s a much better parallel to Amon than Asahi is.
