Currently playing “Empire of the Ants” (PS5) - it’s a real-time strategy game based on a book series by Bernard Werner. This is a genre I don’t have a lot of experience with, and I’m finding it to be quite a challenge. The game is absolutely beautiful, though. (despite the insects 🤢)

Sad to hear that Soraya Saga is retiring from the gaming industry. It’s hard to say how much of Xenogears and Xenosaga she helped pen, but I’m thinking she was the main force behind the hard sci-fi and heady themes of those early games. I wish we’d get more titles with those ambitions.

I swear GameStop tricks you into thinking you’re ordering a new game, only for it to show up used. I just received 2 games that I swear were listed as new online, but I got used copies of each..?! They’re in fair enough condition… but I wanted new, dammit.

Indika (2024, PS5) Rating: 6.5/10 The tone of this one is strange and uneven. I found myself distracted, unsure what kind of experience this was. There are some good elements - I love anything that is critical/questioning of religion, so those themes were on point. Just wanted it to nail the story.

Care Bears: Unlock the Magic (2024, Switch) Rating: 6/10 Would I actively recommend this to anyone? No. Was it cute, colorful, & offer a couple hours of entertainment? Yes. It features a handful of minigames with slightly increasing difficulty along the way. Grab it on sale if you love Care Bears.

Rewatched this last night for the first time in ages. I didn’t remember this being a brisk 89 minutes! It feels epic. The characters are so well established for such a short runtime. Reiner & crew really captured an authentic “rural 1950’s America” vibe.

Tip! When you order from @iam8bit.com, pay extra for order protection. If you don’t, they send damaged stock and then refuse replace it. But if you pay the extra $2, they’ll ship items that are in great condition. I tested both methods and can confirm this happens. It’s a brilliant business model!

Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer (2025, PS5) Rating: 5/10 I love they made a game of this, but holy cow the controls and navigation are a nightmare. It made the experience needlessly challenging & frustrating at times. Great attention to detail with character models, music, & voice acting though!

Marsupilami: Hoobadventure (2021, PS4) Rating: 10/10 Was so hooked I beat it in a day! This is an exceptional platformer. Smooth, tight controls. On the surface it’s pretty easy, but there are lots of optional challenges and secrets to find that can ramp up the difficulty, if you’re so inclined.

For anyone wondering, this tactic resulted in 3 sales this week. In other words, a 300% increase in sales just by highlighting how gay, hot, and sexy my merchandise is. If anyone needs me I’ll be celebrating Christmas in the Hamptons with Ina Garten.

Oh my lord. I bought “Marsupilami: Hoobadventure” for the PS4 because it looked cute and vibrant and he’s kinda hot in a furry-way… I didn’t expect it to be so damned GOOD?! Still early on, but this is already such a satisfying platformer. Relaxing & not too hard. The music is excellent. I’m hooked!

Unsure if this is a weird take, but is “Eat to the Beat” Blondie’s best album? 🤔

SATURDAY NIGHT SLAM MASTERS CAPCOM 1994 SEGA GENESIS

Cocoon (2023, Switch) Rating: 7.5/10 Very interesting little puzzle game with a few random Zelda-esque boss fights thrown in. I nearly rage-quit over one boss, but glad I eventually conquered it. Visuals are pretty cool, and the puzzles are satisfying to suss out. Wish there’d been a story, though?

Horses (2025, PC) Rating: 7.5/10 Comparisons to “Salò: The 120 Days of Sodom” are apt. This is a brave experiment that isn’t just violent & cruel for shock value, but makes you think about the horrors of complicity under fascism. The surreal nightmare sequences are peak. But gameplay is clunky AF.

There’s boss battles in “Cocoon”?! I thought it was just a nice relaxing puzzle game! 😰😂

One of my favorite magazine ads. Made me so intrigued about the game back in the day.

Gimmick! Special Edition (2023, PS4) No Rating - DNF Another impulse Limited Run purchase that didn’t pan out. Holy cow this game is NOT for me. Way, way too difficult. Controls are too slidey. Everything kills you. Too frantic for my old brain to handle. Cute designs, though. Play Kirby instead.

ABZÛ (2017, PS4) Rating: 6.5/10 Some of the folks behind “Journey” worked on “ABZÛ”. The influence is certainly there, but the emotional response is not. It’s a lovely and succinct experience (~2 hrs). The controls feel good. The environments are nice. But not very memorable or impactful overall.

Not sure how I pulled off 22 with all the Enya and sleepy New Age music I listen to, but ok - whatever will impress the gays.

Feather (2019, PS4) Rating: 5.5/10 This was an impulse Limited Run purchase, and… meh. It’s not outright bad, but not memorable either. Kept me occupied for an hour, but there’s just not much to it. Fly around. Look at stuff. Listen to music. No goals, which is fine, but nothing to keep me playing.
