Reminds me that every time a lie was exposed people said 'but it could have been true'. It was never about truth, but about reinforcing ideas. Also you would see more realistic commercials if truth was effective. But that would only be boring. 'This energy drink literally gives wings' works better

How can the USA make the same mistake again? People underestimate the addiction of intense events. Hitler served in WW1, saw the incredible suffering there, and started WW2. Putin was at the heart of Russian cold war and started the same repression. Pete Hegseth served in Iraq and Afghanistan. So...

Martyn F. Overweel is dead. This makes me very sad. He was a nice guy and a great artist. Amsterdam was his natural home, his style with erotic, chaotic, ironic, iconic elements represents the freedom and weirdness of this city. I met him a few times, at parties that were equally weird. R.I.P.

Trump can just say 'we won the war, greatest success ever' and stop it. His critics nor his supporters really care if he claims another fake win. Sure Donny, well done, maybe focus on your ballroom for a while? I can't see any reason for him to continue, except that Pete Hegseth now controls America

I really enjoy NDE stories. I hope they are not fantasies but translations of other layers of existence. But even as stories, fantasies, I think many of them are among the best stories ever told. But in non of these reports I found a good justification for the amount of suffering in the world.

In the past if you were an artist with no success, you could always die with the hope that your art would be discovered by posteriority. But I see a future where humans, if we survive, change themselves genetically and will quickly become a different species The past will look like slime to them 1/2

Nearly all culture and media is an instrumental proxy whose purpose is to get us to relate to other people. The fate of society rests on everyone realizing that in time.

Kind of ironic that AI is mostly invented by Americans but also will hurt them the most, because for Americans work is their identity. Italians will be happy if the robot does the work. They will vote for redistribution of the gains and just go to the beach.

Weird how I find it uncomfortable with modern classical composers that they are alive but not with pop artists. It has something to do with intimacy. Maybe with pop musicians their persona is part of the act which creates distance. With death people it doesn't matter who they were. 1/2

If the Iran war is a big failure for the USA, the window of opportunity for China to attack Taiwan gets bigger. Trump will hesitate to start yet another war. Allies will hesitate to cooperate with the USA. Trump can be bought by Xi.

The latest World Happiness report is out. Arguably the most important report in the world. Happy to see that some eastern European countries are moving up: Kosovo, Lithuania, Poland are happier than for instance the UK. Latin America generally does well, especially considering their often low GDP

I am very happy to live in the most prosperous century ever but esthetically I prefer any century in the past. Of course this sophisticated level of beauty wasn't everywhere, but at least it was appreciated. These shapes give great joy and you can add any meaning or story, what more do you want?

When a musician tells a composer that a certain note may just be reachable but with great difficulty, the composer will just write that note. I always felt guilty when I did that but now that I am writing for my own voice, I still do that. So at least I treat myself equally badly.

Moscow is still good at corrupting people. Now the Belgian prime minister, who refused to confiscate Russian funds because 'Moscow made it clear that if that happens, Belgium and I personally will feel the consequences forever' is pressing for negotiations with Russia and to 'normalize relations'.

The propaganda videos the White House makes about the war are a new level of disturbing. Real people are dying, mutilated for life, traumatized for life, and the White house presents war as a game and a triumph. I don't want to fill bluesky with reports of horror, but this propaganda is a dark sign

I find it very tiresome that for the sake of diplomacy world leaders don't speak their mind about each other. I also very much wonder if this politeness is effective. When there is a spat, there is often still dealing after that, so why not let your people and the world know where you stand.
