On this day forty years ago, the patrons of Sausalito Library elected Big Mouth Billy Bass as the library's mascot, chosen for Billy's affinity for the San Francisco Bay and for epitomizing literacy, erudition, and pure nautical bookishness. Today, we celebrate him!

Well, the days of the card catalog are long gone. But we have the MARINet catalog now, which is better in so many ways. Search the collections of every Marin County library all at once, place holds, renew items, suggest a purchase, and more! But yeah, card catalogs were cool!

Many thanks to Bill Jones for sharing his experiences at the first single male to adopt a child in the U.S. (and probably the world) in 1969. We watched a documentary about him, then he read passages from his book, Bachelor Father, and answered questions.

These are the least desirable books in the world. If you handle them, please wash your hands thoroughly or wear gloves. We love the smell of books as much as you but do not, we repeat, do not whiff these. We appreciate the gesture and love to see non-moldy books anytime!
