My son inlaw is in that business and the amount of hours he's worked on 'trial' shifts he's not been paid for is shocking.

Went into Off the Rails, wee cafe on Dundas St today. The lassie said she was on a 'trial' shift. Asked if she was getting paid - the guy training her smirked and went red in the face - I took that as a no and left. Disgusting abuse of young workers.

Just finished Lianne Moriarty's Here One Moment. What a story it was! It never went where you thought it would. I listened to it as an audiobook and the two readers were fantastic.

My Hebe was cut back a few years ago and I wasn't happy with how it was done. Does it need cut back now and, if so, any tips on how to do it properly? The bees love it by the way.🌱

Just finished Department Q. It was an absolute treat. The characters were brilliant and the one liners hilarious. Story was tricky but kept the tension till the very end. Left a few loose threads so hopefully a second series coming.

I was supposed to be attending UCU Scotland Congress. Was looking forward to seeing UCU comrades across Scotland and seeing what we can do to build our fight. Some might say I should keep quiet about this, but I want to keep fighting cuts. The sector is in crisis. It's so frustrating.

Was just disinvited by

to a discussion of Brexit 5 years on- on the entirely reasonable/correct grounds that I know what I am talking about and would give an expert, objective view. What they actually wanted was a "hard Remainer" (to balance a know-nothing Brexiteer). FFS.

Overall, as forecast, the overwhelming consensus among economists is that the impact of Brexit has been significant and negative, but not catastrophic. Some of the downsides on trade have been partially offset by increases in migration.

This book both delights and informs. Hugely detailed empirical evidence of the lives of all sorts of women in England over 900 years. I don't buy her take on all of the material she discusses and she contradicts herself over the binary nature of sex but it didn't stop me loving this book. 📚💙

Give people housing and they'll have kids! Obtaining housing increases the average probability of having a child by 3.8% and the number of children by 3.2%. For 20 to 25-year-olds, the corresponding effects are 32% and 33%.
