Try to imagine and view at the distance that you+others will actually be at in VR - often can go down a step in size with little perceived difference (due to mipmaps, etc) Image: color/normal tex @ 1k vs 2k (left/right) zoomed in/at distance

tl;dr: * Don't use crunch on avatars. * AssetBundle compression is good enough. * Use RG BC5 for normal maps, BC7 for diffuse/color. * If your avatar is still too big, reduce your texture resolution. * If lowering rez makes things fuzzy, re-approach implementation. Use decals or fix your UVs.
