think the 2nd half of THE BRUTALIST is v. messy but this idea that there is so much love inside that marriage but it is no formidable opponent against everything else going on really worked for me. never giving up, and then in the epilogue, it didn't work. repurposed for someone else's ends.

trying to write more letterboxd reviews but in a way i think it's having the opposite effect than the one i want, i.e. i don't have time to write them all so then there are half-baked thoughts rather than anything really thoughtful or intellectually/emotionally satisfying for me

it's no fun to not really love movies other people do (ANORA; NOSFERATU), but it's soooo fun to be totally moved by and love movies many people are mixed or down on (BABYGIRL; QUEER)

so many films to watch but kind of want to see BABYGIRL one more time before it leaves theaters

Those last two sentences make a good ass point I think about a lot — for all media. There is no “correct” reading of a work. Also, just vibe and ride the wave. Open your heart to art, don’t try to “solve” it. An impossibility anyway.

self-imposed stress at all the films i "have to" catch up on

sarah polley's RUN TOWARDS THE DANGER is a tremendous, humanistic work. extends empathy towards othera and towards herself. we are so lucky to have any of her work (writing, directing, etc) in our lives.

i've never kept track of how many films i watch each year that are directed by women (i have very low once-a-month goals to diversify my watching in other ways), so i'm trying to get an idea this year with a tag. 5 films in, 3 directed by women. won't hold that way, i'm sure, but interesting!
