The Rewatchables is such a bizarre project. Sometimes it feels like they're having the least interesting conversation possible about interesting movies. The categories make no sense. And everytime they have a director on, Simmons ends up looking like an ass. And yet I listen.

Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result is not "the definition of insanity." It's closer to the definition of "stupidity."

A game I like to play with friends and family around the holidays is "When would you have died?", in which we think back over our lives and identify all the things that would have killed us if we had been born 100 years ago. It's the fucked up way I practice gratitude.

I watched BLACK BAG again. Twice in three days. I almost never do that. Even beyond the Fassbender of it all, it reminds me a bit of THE KILLER, which I also loved more than most. Sharp, snappy, cold on the surface, warm and hilarious underneath.

Film critics need to stop giving extra credit to movies that are bad simply because they're "the kind of movies we need more of." We all know what kind of movies we need more of. What I want to know is how you honestly feel about *this* movie.

BLACK BAG is the best movie of 2025, and the only reason it’s not being recognized as such is because the slow degradation of cinema (and culture in general) has made us so dumb that we couldn’t recognize a truly intelligent work of art if it kicked us in the balls.

One thing I like to do: When I see on Facebook it's someone's birthday - this is for someone you were maybe never very close with - I send a brief note with a memory I have of them. It helps people to know that they are seen and that they matter to others, even if it's a small thing.
