The only way for me to stay sane is to get out in nature. Sitka Sound as seen from Totem Park.

The first sunny day in weeks, the ice is gone, so EVERYONE was in Totem Park today. Lots of groups of folks visiting, everyone smiling in the sun, lots of "Happy New Years!" exchanged. Once again, Sitka's charmed bubble holds and we didn't have the snow that dumped everywhere else in the SE!

We have swans that come back to winter every year. This year there are 20+, a real bonanza for us. Usually there are around a dozen. Lots of juveniles, which is great to see. Got a walk in before what is threatening to be a significant winter storm. #Sitka #Alaska

Whew! Had a fog scare when visibility went down to a mile, but now it's back up to 8! Looks like Juneau is a go. (If the fog stays gone...🤞🤞🤞) Really looking forward to the week. 😍

Last year at our Xmas bazaar, I sold a hat to a woman. It was my own design, with fireweed. I found out today she gave it to her sis-in-law, who lives on the Chatham Islands, which are 650km away from New Zealand. One of my hats is all the way over there! So cool! #knitting #knit

We've had lots & lots & lots of rain lately. (I love rain, but still..) I'm reminding myself how gorgeous Sitka is in the sun.

My annual plea: Please wear reflective or light-colored clothing at night in Alaska. Parents, have lights/reflective gear all over the bike and the kid. I almost hit 3 teens last night. I slammed on the brakes and got 3 middle fingers in reply. 🤷‍♀️At least they're still alive to flip the bird.

I'm on the first flight out of Sitka's new airport! It's gorgeous (and roomy!) SUCH an upgrade!

I got my very first upgrade on Alaska Airlines for my trip to Fairbanks tomorrow. 1st class for the ONE hour flight from ANC to FAI. Sigh. So close and yet so far.

Thanks to @anchistorian.bsky.social, who pointed this out (eBay) on one of his AK history posts! I was able to snatch this baby up for $8 and it will look great on a hair clip. Interesting note: It was mailed from Wichita, KS. I was born and raised 30 miles north of there in Newton. Small world.
