Money has been very tight, so I held off on Starfleet Academy until I could watch it all in a month. I'm a couple of episodes in, and it's a lot of fun! I loved the Academy books/comics/games as a kid, so this feels weirdly like coming home.

Bookish on HBO Max is really top notch. Very cleverly written, great production values, excellent performances, stylish direction and a score that zings.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds isn't for everyone, and I respect that. But it is such a welcome respite from difficult real-life stuff. A show to watch with a nice cup of cocoa and a bowl of cereal.

I want to like HBO's Dune: Prophecy, but it's... *deep breath* A sequel to a sequel to a prequel to a prequel which precedes another prequel to FH's original Dune, tying into BH and KJA's tie-ins plus the recent films. And they say modern media is getting too complicated!

Went to see LOTR: War of the Rohirrim, loved every second. Really interesting choice to focus on Helm's unnamed daughter from the appendices. Allowed them to tell a human story while keeping Helm a heroic figure who can fell a baddie with a single blow. Very clever!

Six episodes into The Acolyte, and I can't shake the feeling that it captures both the best and worst aspects of the prequels.

It's strange, watching 90s shows upscaled to HD. Sometimes if you look closely you can see just how exhausted the actors are from working round the clock for a 24-episode season.
