Rent gouging is no longer allowed in Washington after Governor Ferguson signed HB 1217 into law this afternoon. Thanks to thousands of advocates from across the state, annual rent increases for residential tenants are limited to 7% plus CPI with a cap of 10%, and manufactured homeowners to 5%.

Have you heard about HB 1217, the rent control legislation that is currently being debated in the Washington State Legislature? Originally the bill passed by the House was supposed to cap annual rent increases at 7%, but the state Senate narrowly voted to increase the limit to 10% + inflation.
