When philosophers of mind bring a thrill of first-personal empirical immediacy to their writing with the line 'Consider the object on my desk in front of me as I write this - it's a coffee cup', it should at least come with an asterisk (*nb - this will be the only empirical example in this book).

The New Yorker piece on Laurie Paul has Elizabeth Barnes saying that the mark of 'Transformative Experience''s greatness is that her class think it is wrong but they all have different reasons why. Reminded me of Stanley and Williamson on 'Knowing How'. It's an odd model of intellectual fecundity.
