For #portfolioday, I thought it'd be fun to collect (almost) all of the comics/graphic novels I've had published in the last decade, both alone and in collab with others. I get hung up on "what is the art?" and I always land on the final printed book, the pages collected in sequence, the object.

Comic cons, I got beef. Five times now in the last year I’ve been invited to participate in a panel. I write back that I’m disabled but would be happy to attend virtually and not ONE of you bother to respond back to me. Somebody have the decency to treat the disabled comics community respectfully.

Don’t waste time drawing sample pages for the Big 2. Unless you’re specifically looking to practice drawing from a sample script, your time is better used creating your own original comics. Even if your dream job is really to draw Batman, create your own nocturnal vigilante adventures.

The announcement of a TMNTxGodzilla comic existing, that I’m not contributing to, feels like a personal failure at this point.

I think it would be fun to eventually release an art book that includes images of all 500+ kaiju that exist in the universe.

Started a spreadsheet to keep track of all the Stomped kaiju. According to notes I put in back-matter, there are over 500 identified kaiju by 2025. So far about 40 appeared in the anthology (including single panel cameos and pinups), with maybe double that amount I could pull from concept designs.

First image has digital color correction, closer to what I imagined but was worried I’d screw it up. I like both versions. At first this request stumped me. I rewatched the film, looked at a bunch of Frank Frazetta and Frank Cho artwork, and did my best to recreate what I saw in my head.

I have a very small collection of original comic book art. This Max Fiumara page from a Darth Vader backup story was the first I purchased. I love the expressiveness of the Tusken Raider’s body language and the variety of inking textures.

I wasn’t allowed to read The Maxx when I was a kid, but I’d flip through it at the comic shop, inspired by the bizarre cartooning style. Sam Keith’s work was so much weirder than the TMNT and Marvel comics I was used to, that even small doses had a huge impact on my artistic sensibilities. RIP
