5,000+ health workers dismissed in Ethiopia due to the #USAID freeze. Urgent life-saving healthcare provision, and food and medicine distribution suspended. HPA is working in solidarity with affected communities, responding to crises as they unfold. All donations will strengthen our efforts.

75,000+ people displaced following #earthquakes in #Ethiopia. Homes, health clinics, & schools have been destroyed. Now the #USAID freeze will block aid, halt medical care, and cut food supplies—hindering collective efforts to respond and ensure displaced people have access to essential healthcare.

The #USAID freeze comes at a time of particular insecurity for many in #Ethiopia. Ongoing #earthquakes have displaced over 75,000 people, and damaged many homes, health centres and schools. The USAID cuts will further hinder collective efforts to ensure those displaced have access to healthcare.

131 orgs in #Ethiopia—local & international—are now cut off from #USAID funds, leaving critical health & nutrition programmes in limbo. This isn't just politics. It’s a direct attack on lives, with public health consequences that will last for years.

#USAID funding supported 15M people in #Ethiopia last year—providing food, sensitive #healthcare, education & more. Now, that funding is frozen. While projects wait for the possibility of “life-saving humanitarian assistance” waivers, lives are not being saved.

This moment demands more than outrage. It demands real, practical solidarity. A solidarity donation to HPA will ensure frontline health programmes can continue to exist, despite the #USAID freeze. It is imperative to ensure that the most marginalised communities aren’t overlooked.

The forced halting of our HIV program in Namibia is just part of the bigger global humanitarian crisis that undermines decades of progress in #GlobalHealth. The decision to freeze #USAID will increase pressure on already fragile healthcare systems, exacerbating injustices and health disparities.

We are witnessing firsthand the devastating impact of the USAID freeze. Health Poverty Action has been forced to halt – amongst other vital projects – our critical HIV program aimed at improving equitable access to services for San people who are HIV positive or at risk of infection in Namibia.

The recent freeze on #USAID funding is a direct assault on the health and dignity of marginalised communities worldwide. Influenced by Elon Musk, this suspension of all USAID will see millions experience disruption of access to essential services including health services, food, and protection.

This is just about the most impactful thing any donor could do right now!

While global corporate media largely overlooks this disaster, communities in North East Ethiopia have faced over 50 earthquakes in recent months—causing extensive damage and displacing over 50,000 people. Many families have lost the crops and livestock they depend on for sustenance. (1/3)
