"No one told us this was going to happen." Wrong! Once again, all the warnings from all the Cassandras were dismissed as lefty loonies and people whose opinions don't matter. But they did warn you this would happen.

"None of this was on anyone's radar." This is false! Right wing authoritarianism has been a visible and growing problem in the USA since at least the 1960s. There have been lots of warnings, especially from the left and from people of color. It is false that no one expected this.

The Right’s idea of free speech is the freedom to call marginalised people slurs without facing public consequences. The Left’s idea of free speech is challenging power and systemic abuse without being arrested. I hope that clears things up for the intellectually disingenuous.
