"we live with the Five Guiding Principles and it works for us" according to the Archbishop of York. Oh really??? I would suggest that the words 'works' and 'us' are both doing some pretty heavy lifting here! For whom does enshrining inequality 'work'?!

I find it very hard to believe a loving God likes making space for bigots. Decent human beings don't. "Consceintious difference" is just allowing space for hate.

All I'm gonna say is that it's recognised often that St Nick's is incredibly important to the ecosystem of the diocese, both missionally and pastorally, but we've been told unless we increase our parish share to 70k (an amount that's more than double our annual income) we won't get another priest.

This was a moving and powerful speech, with implications for how central funds are (or should be) used.

I think there’s useful context in that she was mostly talking about the parish of Walsden’s attempts to cope with the discovery that their church was so dangerous it had to be closed (in the sense of not allowing anyone into the building) immediately, which is a horrendous problem to have to face.
