On Friday, on my way home from a workshop at City Hall on the City’s Vision Zero Action Plan (!!), I was hit by a driver on my own street. I have a badly broken wrist that will likely require surgery, and face a long recovery during which I’ll struggle to fulfil my parenting and work duties. 1/

Turn restrictions are now in place at Broadway and Ontario St, preventing rat running onto this bikeway 🎉 Still work to do especially on 10th but this is a great move from the city!

The final design for Kent Ave (Phase 1) improvements is out. (h/t @markburge.ca) It's, well, it won't be winning any AT design awards. Also, this is 700m of an 8km route that needs overhaul. Also, as expected, last year's motion to explore use of the rail line has affected this work. #bikeyvr

Sad to learn that a cyclist was hit at 12th and Quebec yesterday, day 2 of this detour. I don't know the specifics of what led to that crash, but I sincerely hope we can see some quick action to ensure the local bikeways are a safe travel option - right now they're really not.

Before Covid I would cycle with my young kids to school every morning along the West End Waterfront sea wall bike path (pre-Beach Ave Bikeway) and tell them again and again that this must be the most beautiful bike commute in the world.

Hey #bikeyvr, the Broadway Subway Project people have asked us to remind you to pay attention to the signs and traffic control people on Quebec St between E10th Ave and E8th Ave. Apparently some people are not obeying the "Cyclists Dismount" signs or the other traffic controls.

Broadway is closed between Main and Quebec for four months. The city has done nothing to prevent rat-running on Ontario and 10th Ave bikeways, creating a giant mess. We'll be pressuring council and staff to fix this ASAP. www.youtube.com/shorts/UEfqo...

PSA: Bike detours along 1st Ave. in #Vancouver are still in effect. Signage will redirect cyclists to use the seawall to Ontario St. and then back up E. 1st Ave to Quebec St., while sewer repair work occurs on Quebec St. #ColumbiaStreetSewerRepair

Heads up #bikeyvr, we're seeing reports of many drivers using the 10th Ave bikeway as a way of rat-running around the Broadway closure between Quebec and Main. Let me know if this is causing a problem, photos will help us raise the concern with the city.
