Lewes, Bonfire capital of the world.

Five years ago today, @innerstrings.bsky.social filmed this beautifully simple video for Cheval Sombre’s ‘It’s Not Time’ in Lewes. A couple hundred miles away, I saw the same sunset after my mum’s socially distanced funeral. It remains one of the most profoundly moving things I’ve ever seen.

What a weekend! I had a blast doing visuals for Fat Dog, Silverwingkiller, Mount Palomar, Just For Fun, and the brilliant Working Men’s Club at Aviva Studios in Manchester… one of the best sounding live rooms I’ve ever been in.

Every now and then, I have a late night binge on Low records, and I’m reduced to tears. There’s something deeply moving even before the sadness of losing Mimi.

Thirty five years ago! I’m listening to Lush now, and I’m getting transported back to a great time in my life (only to get snatched back into the now). Wish I could spend longer absorbed in those early 90s memories.

Looks like Overmono smashed their show in MCR last night. Always gives me great pleasure to see my video work on those big screens!

Don’t forget this tomorrow night; the wonderful Death and Vanilla are at Brighton Komedia, and I’m supporting as Malaphors; my new AV project! I’m putting the finishing touches to the set today. It’ll be a mixture of styles; I wanted it to be all drone, but somehow a drum machine has crept in!

Another busy weekend ahead! Aside from a mountain of video work, Saturday pm I’m spinning tunes and oil wheels at Abyss Taproom in Lewes, then last minute preparations for my debut live show as Malaphors, supporting @deathandvanilla.bsky.social at Brighton Komedia. I’m packing my brown trousers.

Busy weekend ahead, firstly with Richard Norris in Birmingham on Saturday evening, then back in Brighton on Sunday evening at the GDS, throwing light at Max Rompler. Hoping to see some familiar faces at both shows.

It’s not very often I can say that I ‘did lights’ for a band, but last night I threw some beams at White Magic For Lovers at their sold out show at St Pancras Old Church. It’s amazing what you can do with four LED lights, two projectors and a haze machine! What a great evening!

A very special evening at The Albert watching two thirds of Kitchens of Distinction perform together onstage for the first time in thirty years. David McAlmont appearing onstage for ‘Mad as Snow’ added extra wow-factor. There were a few early 90s music heroes in the audience too. Was it a dream?

I think this has to have been the best night out ever; certainly the best ever Monday night! Thirty years ago today, Richie Hawtin at the Escape, now known as Patterns. Brain cells were sacrificed.

Found myself sitting next to three guys called Jim last night. We pondered what the collective noun for Jim would be; I suggested ‘a jamboree’ or possibly therefore ‘a jimboree’! This happened recently with three Garys… ‘a Bushell’ was the best we could think of.

I never got to see Ozzy or Black Sabbath perform live. However, my parents saw them at Plumpton in 1970, and without going into too much detail, I was born nine months later. Does that count?

In an otherwise nondescript day, hearing that Mitoma wants to stay with Brighton & Hove Albion has made my day.

Overmono doing their thing at Glastonbury last night. Such a pleasure to work with them and to watch this on the TV, I’m quite proud of the collaboration, in case you haven’t noticed!

I’m envious of anyone at Glastonbury Festival right now, I’ve always had such a good time there. I used to go to Reading Festival in the late 80s and early 90s, but after a magical Glasto92, Reading was never the same for me…and I’ve not been since 93.

I don’t think I’ve watched any film as many times as I have Dirty Harry. The cinematography and Lalo Schifrin’s soundtrack are outstanding. I was in San Francisco whilst on tour a few years ago; that soundtrack was very much in my mind whilst walking through those streets. Lalo Schifrin RIP.

Fond memories of a very special show providing visuals for Vanishing Twin six years ago today. A fairly simple set up, by my standards, with a couple of cameras, a lightbox with home printed acetates, all turned monochrome in Resolume.

Kitchens of Distinction were one of my favourite bands from back in the day, I was lucky to have seen them play live a number of times. So I'm really excited to have bagged a ticket for this gig at The Albert, where Patrick will be joined by Kitchens' guitarist Julian Swales!

Six years ago today, I handed in my notice at the old print job after thirty years of print finishing (that's my gold watch drawn onto my glove). Not a great time to go self employed, what with the pandemic; but after thirteen years without a pay rise, a no-brainer. I should have quit sooner tbh.
