Today, the Government has published its long-awaited National Plan to End Homelessness. We’re delighted to see a firm commitment to ending the unacceptable practice of discharging people from hospital to the street. @pathwayuk.bsky.social has long called for this vital and overdue change.

Doctors are the experts on health, and what helps and harms our health. It’s therefore so powerful to see them standing up for the dangers faced by people experiencing homelessness and calling for action in the Government’s forthcoming homelessness strategy. We support this call.

We warmly welcome the news that, for the first time, housing status has been included in @nhsengland.bsky.social's Statement of Information on Health Inequalities, setting out what information Trusts and Integrated Care Boards should collect to meet their equalities duties.

Last week we had an excellent 2 days delivering inclusion health induction training for the brilliant St George's University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust's Homelessness Inclusion Team (HIT), one of the specialist homelessness hospital teams we support on our Pathway Partnership Programme.

Here @pathwayuk.bsky.social, keeping the voices of people with personal experience of homelessness at the heart of our work is of highest priority. This includes enabling people to share their experiences to influence health service development and policy, as well as contributing to research.

Today we’re marking World Homelessness Day. The health inequalities associated with homelessness are so severe that lives are cut short by over 30 years, tragically many people dying from treatable conditions.

The latest @ourmoh.bsky.social 'Dying Homeless' report lays bare the tragedy of 1,611 people dying in the UK while homeless in 2024. We owe a debt of gratitude for MoH's work, going some way to make up for the invisibility of housing and homelessness in official mortality statistics and NHS data.

Thank you @homelessnessimpact.bsky.social for today’s Impact Forum on shifting homelessness from crisis to prevention. With latest statistics revealing a 20% year on year rise in rough sleeping, it was excellent to join colleagues to explore evidence-based interventions which will drive change.
