I agree that many faculty at my university seem reluctant to openly call bullshit in relation to "AI" because they feel they don't have the expertise to speak up. One of the goals of our project is to address this. We want to help faculty gain the confidence and expertise to voice their concerns.

During my time in the US last month, I had multiple people argue to my face that ‘winning’ the AI race is worth risking climate catastrophe, loss of human agency, mass psychological disturbance, informational collapse, and of course, any moral commitment to a better world. I’m still processing that.

This article raises some great questions. As Sen. Sophia Chitlik asks, why are we investing in these unproven automation tools rather than investing in more educators to help our students? I have similar questions about choices being made at the university level in our state.

We should not be using "AI" to summarize texts. This article explains why and would be a great reading to share with your students!

Ford has rehired hundreds of senior engineers after replacing them with AI backfired and has cost the company billions of dollars. AI adoption is blamed for Ford being the most recalled automaker in the U.S. with 51 recalls covering over 11 million vehicles in the first half of 2026 alone.

A reminder that AI bots are indiscriminately trained on reliable and not-so-reliable sources, with no indication whether the output is just mildy inaccurate or completely wrong. At their core, they are text prediction tools. They don't think, they don't understand and they can't give you any advice.

reading AI eval papers using llm-as-a-judge is alarming for many reasons; many “scientific claims” rely on evals executed on models that are now deprecated. how are we supposed to treat “findings” that are inherently not reproducible? i despair. llms are accelerating the decay of scientific rigor

While this document focuses on K through 12 education, much of this information is also applicable to our situation in higher education. I've heard all of these arguments in workshops and conversations at my university. It's helpful to have counter arguments outlined here with evidence!

Not too long ago, I attended a professional development workshop at my university about writing literature reviews for publication. It focused almost exclusively on demonstrating the use of "AI" tools and mentioned nothing about these failures. Universities must take a more critical stance!

In the university, it often feels like "AI" products and other EdTech tools are put forward as a way to eliminate the need for the human labor of this "real audience." But that labor, of course, is irreplaceable. Such an obvious thing to say, but the university needs to invest in people, not tools.
