Wrapped up warm on a snowy day. ☃️ Here we have Major Campbell Preston, Captain Laing, Captain Foster, and Major Wyckham Boynton of the Scottish Horse enjoying some lovely snowy weather in 1942. There is no location listed for this photograph but let us know if you recognise it!

⚠️Important info ⚠️ We will be closed over the festive period from the 20th of December until the 4th of January. We will reopen at 10am on the 5th of January and will also be running our Monday Memories club that day.

These photographs are undated but are estimated to have been created in the early 20th century. James was an avid amateur photographer of the local area.

A winter wedding! 🤵👰❄️ This is Scottish Horse Captain "Sandy" Gordon marrying Helen McCorquodale in December 1942 in London. The couple are accompanied by Pipe Major Wilkie on the right and Sergeant Helly on the left.

A time travelling visitor?... We had a look through our donation money box today and found an old penny from 1947! The old pennies started to be removed from circulation in 1970 in anticipation of "Decimal Day" on the 15th of February 1971 when the UK decimalised their currency.

Sandwiches for lunch then boys? 🥪 Scottish Horse troops getting ready to distribute the bread ration in 1910.

Here we have an photograph of Peter Rabbit author Beatrix Potter. Beatrix and her family would rent large local house and spend their summers in the area. This portrait was taken by A.F. MacKenzie, at this time Mackenzie was using the abbreviation N.B. after Birnam which stands for North Britain.

#ThrowbackThursday to a Scottish Horse Party in 1939 and the old Scottish Horse Museum which was in Dunkeld. When the Scottish Horse Museum was closed in 1999 the Chapter House Museum trust adapted their collections policy to accept the Scottish Horse archives and documents. Lucky us!

On the 16th of October 1908 Dunkeld Cathedral was reopened after its renovation which was funded by Sir Donald Currie. Here we have a photograph of the opening service, an invitation to the event and the order of service.

Mysterious cave in a fantasy film?... NO, it's Lady Charlotte's cave on the hillside of Craig-y-barns. The cave was a gift for Lady Charlotte, daughter of John Murray the 3rd Duke of Atholl in 1774. This photograph was taken by local woman Mary Noble in 1948.

We hear that moustaches are cool again...😎 Here we have Captain Percy Norville Field of the 1st Scottish Horse. Captain field was killed at Doornlaagte in South Africa in on 2nd March 1902 during the Second Anglo-Boer war.

Hop to it! 🐇 A group of people preparing to erect the ornamental gateway for the Beatrix Potter Garden in September 1993. The sign and gateway were donated by Frederick Warne & Co publishers who were known for publishing many children's books, in particular those by Beatrix Potter.

Gone fishin' 🎣 Here we have an unnamed Scottish Horse Soldier Fishing at a lake near Cuneo in Italy in autumn 1945.

In spirit of the Birnam Highland games this weekend... 🐎 In 1934 they organised a pony race during the games, however the horses arrived after the games had finished for the day! These newspaper clippings were found in the minute books of the games committee. 📖
