A group of Scottish Horse troops in Southampton on the 27th of August 1902. The men had just disembarked the SS Gothic. This was a white Starline vessel built by Harland & Wolff Ltd, Belfast which was completed in 1893 and frequented a route from London to New Zealand via Australia.

"The Battle of Glen Tilt" - A Scottish Horse training camp activity at on of the pre 1914 camps in Glen Tilt. This activity required the troops to build a bridge across the river. One of the photographs refers to this as the Battle of Glen Tilt so it must have been difficult!

Scottish Horse Soldiers outside "Birnam School" in 1915. Likely Torwood school which was closed in 1929 before the opening of the new larger Royal School of Dunkeld in 1930. Torwood School later became a youth hostel before it was demolished as part of the building of the new A9 bypass in the 1970s.

Three Scottish Horse troops on fatigue duty chopping wood in 1914. Fatigue duty refers to non-combat manual labor assigned to military personnel, including tasks such as cleaning, digging trenches, and chopping wood.

Here is a memorial concert programme from nearly 40 years ago. When looking at this item we discovered the ticket for the event was hidden inside. This year's Niel Gow festival will be held between the 20th and 22nd of March. Further information at www.nielgowfestival.co.uk

Having a bit of a freshen up! An unnamed gentleman painting the railings outside of the Free Church in Dunkeld (now home to Jeffreys Dunkeld and The United Lodge of Dunkeld No. 14). This photograph is undated but was taken by James MacIntosh so will be between 1900 and 1920.

St Mary's tower, Birnam was built in 1860 by the Architect John Carver for Lord and Lady Manners. St Mary's tower was demolished in the 1960s. There are photographs available to view of its condition pre-demolition via this link - www.trove.scot/place/161704...

Dunkeld Cathedral street in 1939, the last Scottish Horse church parade before the outbreak of the second world war. The photograph predates the national trust's Little Houses improvement scheme and shows a glimpse of Cathedral street's previous condition.

On this day 26 years ago (9th of February 2000) the first sod was cut for the extension at the Birnam Institute, now known as the Birnam Arts!

Gone skiing ⛷️ 3 Scottish Horse Troops photographed at the Golden Lion Ski Club in Plan De Gralba Italy in February 1946. The man standing alone has been named as Dick Jones.

Burn's night, the annual celebration of the life and works of Robert Burns, Scotland's national poet. Burns once came to visit Niel Gow and they performed together in the Old Rectory at the top of Cathedral street, it is one of the few buildings which survived the Battle of Dunkeld in 1689.

Here we have the 2nd Squadron Scottish Horse Troops at Edinburgh Castle in January 1901 before leaving for South Africa.
