For this week's #WhereisitWednesday we have probably strayed outside of Dundee. This is from a collection that includes some photographs of Angus, Fife and Perthshire in the 1920sThere appears to be an Inn in the background. Any ideas?

These photographs show Pte John Willmott of the 1st Battalion Royal Highlanders. The story goes that he kept trying to enlist whilst under-age, and finally the recruiting sergeant had John's father permission in writing and he was enlisted.

Earlier this year we marked the 100 year anniversary of the unveiling of the Dundee War Memorial. We thought we would reshare the original plans for the memorial on its 101st Armistice Day. #ArmisticeDay

Airlie Place was built c.1871 and was demolished nearly a century later. The site is now occupied by the Dundee University Student Association. Date: c.1966 Ref: IN20-053 CL1002

Street of the Week: Blackscroft The area around this street was feued to a Mr Paton Black in 1540. By 1581 the area was known as Blackscroft. Paton Black was a wright, and did work on St Mary’s Parish Church in the 1550s.

Street of the Week: St Salvador Street This street was named after the church that sits on it. The church was opened in 1859 and the road followed around 10 years later, being officially named on 16th January 1871.

Street of the Week: Milnbank Road This street originally ran off the Scouringburn (now Brook Street) but was later extended to meet City Road. This area was originally part of the Logie estate. The land was sold off in 1829 to a Robert Miln.

Today's #TransportTuesday is the Dundee West Engine Shed, which I am told was along at Roseangle. The photograph is not dated.

Street of the Week: Glamis Road You may be wondering why this is called Glamis Road but it is no where near the Old Glamis Road. Well it has nothing to do with Glamis the place but rather the title. The road ran over the Balgay Estate, then owned by Harry Warren Scott.

This street was originally called the Argyllisgait, possibly named in connection to the Campbells of Argyll. Its name first appears in the early 14th century byt 200 years or so later the name appears to change to Overgait.

Scheme of the Week: Kirkton The area most people know as Kirkton is actually two housing schemes called Magdalenes Kirkton and West Kirkton. As with other housing schemes north of the Kingsway, this area is named after a farm that occupied the land before the homes were built.

Street of the Week: Dunsinane Avenue Dunsinane Avenue runs between Coupar Angus Road and Kings Cross Road. The name of this street was chosen by the Council's Works Committee on 6th January 1947, along with the other streets of the Dundee Industrial Estate.
