The fact is, I would now like a steelbook for every Troughton story.

About 10 years ago I directed a shoot of Blondie performing at BBC Maida Vale. I had cameras everywhere, of course, including one pointed at drummer Clem Burke while I manned another over his shoulder. I then spent two weeks editing it all into an hour long programme...

Remembering/Forgetting the Savages is the best Doctor Who physical media extras I've seen in years. Far better than the actual story. Kudos to @0tralala.bsky.social, @tobyhadoke.bsky.social, and everyone involved.

Well, look what's just arrived. Remembering/Forgetting The Savages is on disc 3, by the way...

It was fun watching these ropey prints as though freshly returned from Hong Kong. I'm old enough to remember every blemish, tramline and jump from the 1992 VHS release, which retailed at the increased price of £12.99 because BBC Video had added an intro by director Morris Barry.

What's that? Buy Spearhead from Space for the sixth time in my life? Alright. But it must be the last. Absolutely the last. Final. Full stop. Never again. Cross my heart and hope to die. Or at least until the Standard Edition comes out.

It's been about 16 months since I was asked to make a doc about The Savages and 13 since I went to interview Peter for it. So it was great to finally be at the BFI last night to watch the animation on the big screen.

I thoroughly enjoyed this by @cooraysmith.bsky.social. It probably doesn't shift my opinion of the transmitted story very much, but it certainly adds to my already substantial appreciation of this era. It's the first of The Black Archive series I've read - I'm already looking for my next one...

Stuart worked his arse off on this documentary and his experience shows in every brilliant visual flourish and thoughtful segue. Not a stone is left unturned and this film has a unique flavour all its own. And it’s about the same length as the story!!

I've made a little something for this. Well, 100 minutes of something.

It's a really fun piece that covers pretty much everything with a great visual style. Stuart's done a great job on this. 🙂

Had to buy a new 4k player as my old one packed up over Christmas. Naturally, the first thing I'm watching is some black and white telly from the '50s.

I realise I've never really been familiar with the episode titles for The Box of Delights, probably because of the VHS compilation.

I'm pleased to say I've informed a friend who has been on this earth for 38 years that she shares her birthday with Doctor Who. I mean, how could she not know?

Years ago the only way to get widescreen versions of some films on VHS was to buy a box set full of postcards. These days it happens with 4k and steelbooks. I keep the faith with physical media but this sort of thing just pushes me towards digital.

Yes, my favourite story is Inferno. My favourite story is also City of Death. And Ghost Light. Oh, and The Power of the Daleks...

Marvellous. (Although I'll be watching the Blu-ray this year.)

New arrival. One to watch over the Christmas holidays, I think.

I got rid of all my VHS Whos in the end - except this one. Just couldn't part with it. I can't play it, of course, but it's a reminder of that golden period when I saw these stories for the first time.

I'm old enough to see most of life as a Betamax/VHS analogy, so I'll flirt with both Threads and Bluesky until one does the equivalent of chewing up The Caves of Androzani. Anyway, first post done.
