Was not prepared for the number of students who cry in my office as a professor. Not in a grade grubbing way, but just in a life is hard way. And being the professor who is understanding & open with my own mental health & disabilities means I think I get more of it than the avg? I am Le tired.

I think the problem with higher education is the fact that universities are being run like corporations, with all the shite that comes along with it, without the actual manpower or higher pay that make corporate work tolerable.

Sometimes I think I really missed the boat on switching to DH from Education like 10 years ago when I was working for Center for DH at UCLA & playing around with mapping archives of yearbooks/student leaders at a HS in east LA with census results to 'see' diversity in community & educational spaces

Why do bodies decide that the holidays are when they need to get sick? every.single.year at least one person is super sick. why can't I ever remember that and prepare for it? I'm so tired of disappointing myself and others.

My kid (7yo) got a spacer installed today so his pronunciation is a little off since it is across his palate. (1) he was mostly worried he wouldn’t be able to roll his Rs in Spanish for school & VERY happy when he still could. (2) he had taken to singing Hot To Go as a way of practicing Ts tonight 🤣

I think my favorite thing I added to this semester's methods class is opportunities for students to give partner feedback by pretending they are going to teach the other person's lesson plans. Convos are SO much more in-depth than normal since they now have to ask questions so they can teach it.

Podcasting is a GAMECHANGER. Kids talk more with a mic and headphones. They meet peers who they wouldn’t normally interact with. They talk about their learning. So much to explore in this field for education. #EduSky

These high childcare costs are pushing mothers not only out of the workforce but also--and maybe ironically--into political conservatism. Because moms pushed out of paid work often struggle with loss of identity. And because conservative Christian moms' groups often step in to fill that void. 1/🧵
