My conspiracy theory about genAI in games blowing up more and more by big companies is that they’ve all got a ton of investors insisting they use genAI tools otherwise they(investors) won’t be able to bankroll em anymore

"but it'll save time!" i actually...don't care? lol. the genAI evangelists overestimate how much the people who chose to do research for a living (before chatgpt even existed) value "saving time." i'd rather do research well than do it quickly. i'd rather write an award-winning book than a fast book

a big part of the issue surrounding the use of chatgpt/LLMs in academic research comes down to process vs. product. a lot of us know that the process of doing research matters because that's where intellectual work is done; but some "academics" and lots of techies only care about a fast product

The premise of Iron Lung "slightly" annoys me, because an entire moon with an ocean of blood (and my understanding is that it is real blood) would be a resource that you could sustain human life with. Even if it's disease ridden, you could probably turn it into some kind of safe protein powder.

I also think embracing this is a key step in reclaiming the term/erasing the shitty connotations from the 2000s. But it is also just common sense

Anyway Expedition 33 is the game that should truly trigger full embracing of 'JRPG' as a descriptor of a certain subset of mechanics that emerged thru Japanese adaption of Wizardry, Ultima etc for consoles, rather than just 'RPGs made in Japan'.
