We are the University of Manchester Child Study Centre! We are a team of researchers who study mostly infants and children (and sometimes adults and sometimes chimpanzees) to figure out how humans learn language, make friends, and interact with each other!

In 1950, in the very building that now houses the Child Study Centre, Alan Turing asked a question that changed the world: ‘Can machines think?’ His Manchester paper introduced the Turing Test, laying the foundations of artificial intelligence.
