Of all the ways to make a building more interesting - ornament, different materials, artwork - articulation has got to be the worst. Each of the extra corners from the building shifting in and out is a potential leak, and the yellow planes are extra walls that reduce energy efficiency.

West building is the facade. There are 3 floors of housing on top, extended out from the old building and supported by concrete pillars. They added a glass facade a few meters out from the original brick. Photo taken standing between the two looking up. 2/?

, this one is in an old industrial neighborhood that's filling with homes around some remaining industry. The warehouse floor is the highlight. It's lined with shops; the open space often hosting temp uses may someday house a market. 1/?

This part of Alito's opinion is frankly terrifying. Note the language of "mere" disparate impact. For the nonlawyers, "disparate impact" is the type of case you bring for housing or employment discrimination where the defendant does something discriminatory without an overt statement of intent.

neighborhood planning tours are full of gems. This is the oldest (secular?) building in the city, Hardturm. Built in the 12th or 13th century, the walls are 3.5m thick up to 6m high. In 1693 it was renovated (add bay windows!) for people to live in it! (Still residential use.)

Zürich's Sechselaeuten festival is a four-day spectacle with costumes and parades, concluding by burning a firework-filled snowman on a bonfire. Organized by (sealthy) Guild members, it used to mark extending the workday until 6, thanks to long evenings. It's an anti-May Day.

I've wondered about Italian street materials for 3 years. They are stone slabs, covered in small irregular divots. "How?" In Sicily, I saw the "How" firsthand. This guy was working hard, sunglasses his only protective gear, flakes of stone flying, manually texturing the stone.

Fascinating poll on how pervasive ICE invasion was in the central cities. Almost one-fifth of St. Paul encountered ICE; more than a quarter of Minneapolis did. Either figure is astounding & awful; indicates Mpls enforcement was roughly half again more intense than St.P.
