Re-watched Robert Altman's truly brilliant Gosford Park to distract me from the fall of Rome. But even that movie had an uncanny echo of the US 2024 presidential campaign. Wonder if anyone can guess what it was.

With Ratcliffe, Hegseth, Rubio and Waltz, Trump has a China uberhawk in each of the four key positions. Not what I was expecting. Not to mention tariff plans for China trade war. This is going to be rough.

Gaetz feels like overreach even by Trump's standards. He will willingly play Trump's DoJ hitman and hound Trump's enemies (and doubtless his own). But most of his colleagues despise him. He's still being investigated as a sex criminal. Can he be confirmed?
