All my students making domain specific language spaceships was a glorious class.

I'm pretty happy with the way AstroBots is turning out. Except the collision detection issues I need to fix (and by fix I mean search GitHub for someone's well tested library I can use).

Well we've not got much going on except a possibility of rain!

I remade c-robots as c++asteroids using my macross library to make opcode driven bot ships.

Unhappy with every deck box, I decided to design my own. I had a few criteria: - No tuck. - No hook. - No inner flaps that catch the cards when you slide them in. - Durable; no pieces that easily tear. I'm extremely happy with it. PNP only, for now. #Crownfell is coming to PNP Arcade this Friday!

Opened the back door to let Bella out, skunk stares back at me. I stare at the skunk. Bella runs past barking looking for it. Skunk runs other way. I get Bella in. Skunk looks back, smiles, and sprays as the door was shutting. We won't be going outside again tonight.

Just went through an active shooter lockdown during class. All safe. Students were great. But …. lots of thoughts on state of things. Going to have a whiskey now.

I don’t like this timeline much. I mean, sure, there’s stuff to like like coffee and dogs. But then the current state of burning down civilization just to hurt yur neighbors beliefs, accomplishments and status? This is not what I want to live in. I think there’s a whole commandment on this somewhere

Bitboard template class in C++ my students asked why I pass the lamda function as the template. Because I am lazy and like having the compiler go work all of that out. Implicit conversion is actually useful sometimes.

In class tonight I covered pawn movement via bit boards for chess AI live coding and it worked.. first try. Highly dubious students. Highly dubious lecturer. Aside, this fall teaching schedule is exhausting. I will be in a coma the week of thanksgiving. Literally. I'm planning it. Coma.

If nothing else, a high-quality, full-featured competitor to Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign that is completely free is *definitely* going to be bad for Adobe. I'm a big Affinity fan, and I'm glad the AI features are the only thing behind a subscription paywall. This will shake things up.

I love WoW, but I wish I played the picture in the header of this article (below from an excellent @wowhead.com article) and not the mess that the game is when you actually boot it (pictured in the article). The game, imo, loses all immersion when it's more UI than immersive environment.

Class on bit manipulation went really well. Students asked really good questions, and I think started to see that this binary stuff is really actually pretty cool. I did go down a rabbit hold and rant about my dislike of std::cout using the bit shift operator..

I've been working a little bit on a murder mystery game, as a university lecturer, this is about as much murder solving I can get in before class.

This advert had an "actual size" picture of the ZX Spectrum and I can't lie and say I didn't pretend I had the real thing on my desk. Sinclair were masters of advertising.

I was thinking about this on my last walk, the joy of discovering Eurthymics was a big moment in my life, between them and Kate Bush, Pink Floyd's The Wall it felt like I was discovering new creativity ever week. I wonder if that still happens today, and I wish it happened to me again.

This is why I love writing chess AI stuff so much, here's a time capsule from the past about the beginnings of consumer chess machines. From the article, it did play a good game that could beat most of us, but definitely not as strong as it claimed to be.
