The new Plaid Cymru Government is ready to work with whoever is in No. 10 to deliver for our communities. If Andy Burnham really wants to get politics working again, he must listen to the people of Wales and give us powers over rail, the Crown Estate and justice.

Andy Burnham has advocated for decentralising power from Westminster to “the regions”. But Wales isn’t a region, we’re a country. Plaid Cymru will ensure Wales is treated with fairness and respect, and continue to fight for powers over rail, the Crown Estate and justice and policing.

Plaid Cymru has long argued that devolving the Crown Estate is a matter of priority. Yet, despite a resounding #PlaidCymru victory in May’s election, and with every council in Wales agreeing with the principle, the UK Government continues to deprive #Wales of its own natural wealth.

Burnham’s focus today seemed to be on ‘the regions’ - aka England. But the people of Wales have made it clear they want more powers over rail, Crown Estate and justice. We live in hope Burnham wants to deliver for our communities too and so he must listen to our calls and act.

Wales is being held back by an outdated funding formula that was only ever meant to be temporary. Even the man who created it said using it long-term for Wales was "grossly unfair"! It's time for a system based on our nation's needs. ✊🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

A Number 10 of the North will mean very little to the people of Wales. Fair funding and parity of powers with Scotland must be the minimum for Wales, and a respect agenda that works both ways. Whoever leads the UK Government, I will make the same positive case in a constructive manner.

Our nation has been shafted financially by Westminster for decades. A failure to address that inequality means our services, our communities and our people are worse off.

Andy Burnham has previously said he wants to scrap the Barnett formula to make spending fairer for the north of England. Any reform of the funding formula must address the longstanding underfunding of Wales. Will the next PM listen and treat Wales with the fairness we rightly deserve? 👀

Keir Starmer’s legacy as Prime Minister is one of letting Wales down. His successor must show the understanding and respect that devolution deserves.
