During my visit to Darfur, Sudan, I met @msf.org colleagues at Zalingei hospital, where drone strikes regularly occur just outside the walls. During mass casualty events, they work under intense pressure to save lives. The world must not look away from the conflict in Sudan.

I visited Zalingei Teaching hospital in Central Darfur, Sudan, earlier this month. The hospital had been bombed and looted and I was proud to see the work that our teams had achieved in restoring healthcare to people – something that should never have been lost.

In 2016, the international community reaffirmed that the wounded and sick, as well as those who care for them, must be protected. That attacks on healthcare continue to occur 10 years on is a failure of political will.

10 years ago today, the UN Security Council adopted Resolution 2286. Over 80 Member States committed to protect medical humanitarian work. Yet @msf.org is sharing the same message from 2016: 🔴 Stop bombing hospitals. 🔴 Stop bombing health workers. 🔴 Stop bombing patients.

Women in Somalia often face “triple delays” in accessing healthcare; a delay in seeking care, in reaching care, and in receiving care. These delays can have deadly consequences.

In 2014, I visited eastern DRC, where @msf.org teams were treating sleeping sickness - the only available treatment was a drug so toxic it killed 1 in 20 patients. In 2026 I'm so proud that, thanks to @dndi.org, patients can be cured with a single dose of a groundbreaking new oral drug, acoziborole.

The full-scale war in Ukraine continues to empty communities, pushing people into displacement shelters. It’s heartening to see that @MSF has stepped up presence in shelters through mobile clinics, providing people with some care during a harsh winter:

Horror is unfolding in El Fasher, Sudan. People are seemingly trapped in the city, and @msf.org teams 60 km away are receiving malnourished people among those who have managed to escape. Civilians must be urgently protected, and safe escape routes must be provided.

Many world leaders will get a letter from me today, demanding overdue concrete action to save Palestinian lives. They must increase the number of medical evacuations from Gaza. Patients with life-threatening conditions cannot wait any longer:

I’ll never forget the feeling of returning to Tigray, Ethiopia, at the end of the war in 2022, to restart services around Shire and Sheraro. At that time, people would wait for more than a day to see a doctor.

My colleague Hussein was a dedicated nurse and father. Yesterday, he died of injuries from an Israeli airstrike in Gaza. Our thoughts are with Hussein’s wife and young children. His killing isn't a tragic accident, it's unacceptable proof that no one is safe from genocide.

The Global Sumud Flotilla on its way to Gaza is an act of protest and a show of support for Palestinians enduring annihilation through Israel’s genocide. I’m wishing the flotilla success. At @msf.org, we support this action of solidarity and humanity.
