I get tired of saying it, but I’ll say it again: the nature of oppression in America is that they workshop it first on Black, Latino, Asian & Native people. But it is always, in the end, coming for everyone.

Arresting journalists. Good God.

This isn’t about convicting Don Lemon. It’s unlikely that will happen. It’s about intimidating journalists & making them censure themselves out of fear of consequences. It’s about eroding the free press because the administration can’t afford the criticism.

Thinking about a post saying people wouldn’t get killed if they stayed home and didn’t get in ICE’s way, & was reminded of the many many times women are told to stay home and not put themselves in danger to avoid raped. Because fascism is built on male supremacy, and fear is meant to trump freedom.

Started tearing up writing a section about creative nonviolent protest for the upcoming @irms.bsky.social white paper. So that's a solid stopping point for the day, just in time for me to head to one of my chronic health treatments and start the daily decompression for survival.

I'm not one for false optimism. But what I witnessed today in Minneapolis was tremendous, both in scale and exuberance. It was a stunning answer to the federal assault on Minnesota, a show of solidarity that gives us something to hold on to during times that are unforgiving.

I've been exploring my neurodivergence over the last two years, & regretting (angrily) it took until my mid-30s, as I lacked exposure to resources that would help me understand myself. When we should be encouraging access to education around neurodivergence, this aims to create a chilling effect.

I got a chance to listen to the pre conference panel earlier today. The panelists were fantastic. The conversations around the ways culture and the media (tv, film, podcasts) have been driving the manosphere deeper into antifeminism and misogyny were stellar. #IRMS2025 @irms.bsky.social

Who could have possibly predicted that TERFS would immediately pivot from transmisogyny to overt racism? Oh, wait. It was trans women. Trans women said this is exactly what would happen.

At a disinformation summit, musing over a question that often comes to mind: is social media disinformation greater than that of past media? For instance, yellow journalism, where two white men who controlled major media decided to start a war, regardless of accuracy. Historians?

Inspired by @karenattiah.bsky.social’s independent #ResistanceSummerSchool in response to Columbia canceling her course, I wanted to share a little of how @irms.bsky.social has pursued its own means of resistance education over the years when academic institutions fell short.

“This is not a time for media literacy or historical knowledge to be held hostage by institutions bending the knee to authoritarianism.”

But the problem is DEI .

So the U.S. is facing following the example of Nazi Germany with motherhood medals, and disenfranchising married women who changed their name, because authoritarian regimes rely on authoritarianism at home, giving cis men dominance over women who are relegated to baby-making and -raising.

The language of "trans rights activists" is so sly. It implies none of us are average people who just want to support rights for trans people; people like me who can't organise their way out of a paper bag but can turn up to a protest.
