Watching the @gothamfc.bsky.social match and saw a weather delay called there at our home stadium, caused by a sudden, apocalyptic thunderstorm.

I have a hard time understanding how @nwslsoccer.com & @kansascitycurrent.bsky.social could not have come to this decision before 11,500 people packed into a stadium and players warmed up when we have been in a heat advisory for days. Your CBS slot is not worth risking safety!

The A-Leagues learnt their lessons, and in the peak of summer games don't kick-off before 5pm local (New Zealand games the exception), and even then we still occasionally see heat delays or players competing in insane conditions. This needs to be fixed and fast.

A summer soccer league is going to face some serious questions as climate change progresses. Time to institute better policies and management to prevent this from happening again.

Spent 3 hours at CPKC Stadium this afternoon in the broiling heat. After repeated weather delays, I finally had to take my party home about an hour before the @kansascitycurrent.bsky.social game eventually kicked off. Beautiful stadium. Can’t wait to watch a game there.

Reading up on the new FIFA Women’s Champions Cup, not to be confused with the CONCACAF W Champion’s Cup. Gotham FC’s win in the latter last night earns it a berth in the former in January. They’ll face the South American champ with a path to possibly play Arsenal in the final.

In my newsroom years, every time we built a resource it died. It’s not just that the teams don’t make them, but also that the organizations don’t understand how, or want to, maintain them. It doesn’t fit the model. The whole shop is set up to crank out *news*. The business is ephemeral by nature.

Thank you for pointing this out. Company culture can make or break the weird ones. We need to be accepted with kindness whether or not we save Christmas.

Also have to applaud @python.org and the community for really investing in bringing new people and experiences to #PyConUS. It can take a lot of intention and work to make a programming conference a welcoming space for everyone to be “good weird” together, and we all benefit.

It's quite something to see a journalist who cut their teeth in Lawrence pre-Django talking about eventually learning to code, and then building out journalism tooling in Django. It's amazing seeing how much good has come out of one reasonably small newspaper. #pyconus

Had a moment of profound ambivalence at the self-checkout machine at Stop & Shop when “London Calling” started blasting out over the store.

Tried to turn on my computer to Zoom into my Monday meeting this morning and… nothing. I think it got so excited about all the data and tools from #NICAR25 that we were going to try today that it just keeled over.

I’d be willing to bet that someone from the @ire-nicar.bsky.social community has a stack of csvs of all the tweets and threads and skies from the conferences. For a lightning talk next year, I’d love to see someone do a sentiment analysis of post-NICAR social media posts over the years. #NICAR25
