The best news I've had this year arrived in the mail today: The Boston Girls' Latin School named #UrsulaParrott their "Outstanding Alumna" of 2024! After decades of forgetting, this best-selling author is being remembered and read again. I stand by my words abt "women's lives and bodies", too.

In case you need a reminder today about what resistance under a repressive regime looks like, watch the Iranian film from 2024 "The Seed of the Sacred Fig." I cannot recommend it highly enough. Mohammad Rasoulof and his team risked their lives to make this film. I urge you to see it.

Apropos of the news out of Syria, by far the most important, devastating, beautiful, and well made film I saw this year was Agnieszka Holland's "Green Border." It's a realist meditation on the devastating complexities of migration. I was profoundly moved by it. Filmmaking at its best + most urgent.
