The Society is deeply saddened to hear of the death on 16 May of Michael Gandy FSG, aged 76. A long-standing member, Chairman and Fellow of the Society, Michael served as editor of The Genealogists’ Magazine from 2000 and was a much-valued friend and supporter of the genealogy community.

A thorough priest! Edward Barron was born and baptized in 1902. In 1935, he married my cousin, Mary McGarrity. Mary died in early 1946, and Edward remarried later that year. All the details are cross-referenced on Edward's baptismal record.

Happy 100th Birthday to Sir David Attenborough! Did you know that his grandfather Samuel Clegg (pictured in the middle here in 1924) lived in Derbyshire? He was the first headteacher of Long Eaton Higher Elementary School and helped architect George Widdows to design the Tamworth Road school.
