It's a common question: Star Wars or Star Trek. While I reject the need to choose, I say Trek because it's a better world to live in. Star Wars is just us: greed, power, cruelty. Spaceships and laser swords don't fix that. I do still love a great story though, and The Bad Batch doesn't disappoint.

The Sagan is my favorite new starship design (shout out to @daveblass.bsky.social, Doug Drexler, & John Eaves) but this sentence in the Fanhome book irks me: "The USS Stargazer (NCC-82893) was the first Sagan-class ship to enter service..." So I'm invoking the Matalas Rule...

Watching the finale of Star Trek: Lower Decks season 5 (with commentary) and here's the deal, capitalism: anyone who picks up LD for more seasons gets my money. @mikemcmahan.bsky.social should be working 24/7. Just let him do his thing.

Hey @wmata.com, I'm not sure if you read the news, but there's this fun little billionaire experiment called "return to work" and gee, it sure would be nice if the brand new but empty for the last month parking garage at New Carrolton was maybe OPEN now that the current one is full every day.

I can't believe Netflix blew $320 million on "Electric State." That's 40 episodes of Strange New Worlds, or 40 SEASONS of Star Trek Lower Decks. Guess which one is clearly the better choice?

Not sure why Acolyte got all the hate (aside from the usual toxic fandom reasons we never admit). Sure the last 2 episodes struggled to pull together the narrative, but it was still enjoyable and a solid setup for a second season exploring the flaws of the jedi. Ah well.

The difference between the Jedi and the Sith appears to be that the Sith have a gym membership.

Half way through Star Wars: The Acolyte (I know. Hey I never said I was a _good_ fanboy). Love a character-driven story. I hope there's a deeper twist with the 4 Jedi, but I already appreciate the twist I know is coming.

FYI for those few who are following: the Star Trek Voyager rewatch is on hold because I cancelled my Paramount+ subscription. Waiting on DVDs because I'll be damned if I'm going to be held hostage by a company that doesn't care about Trek.

Every time I think I've found all the easter eggs and deep references in Star Trek Picard season 3, something like this shows up.

Am I (finally) enjoying seasons 3 of The Mandalorian? Yes. Does it feel a lot like an MMO with dubiously relevant side quests and conveniently nostalgic NPCs? Also yes.

Did you know that Phyllis Diller typed out all of her jokes on index cards? Did you also know that her "Gag File" is part of the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History's collection? Did you also know that those cards have been digitized and you can browse through them? #Standup

FYI for you Star Trek Lower Decks Boimler cosplayers out there: the Sun-In purple Fun-In was easy to use and worked great, but if you have light colored hair (or salt and pepper cause you're an elder nerd) it's not coming out after one (or 5) shampoos. I don't mind, but if my job did...oops.

To make sure I got the exact quote, I watched the scene from Star Trek Lower Decks. We need to talk more about @mikemcmahan.bsky.social and Titmouse slipping a GD rack focus shot into a cartoon, because it's blowing my mind that I never noticed before. The artistry in this show is astounding!

Continuing the distraction -slash- Star Trek Voyager rewatch with s5 e24 “Relativity” Okay, a strong opening. I'm a sucker for starship design. And I hear those DS9 melodies, you sly devils. Did I pause the scene a bunch to see which ships are represented? Like you have to ask.

Once more into the breach (& avoiding news)! Star Trek Voyager rewatch: s5 e23 "Eleven Fifty-nine" Even in the 24th century the myth of the Great Wall of China being visible from space persists? From people who live in space? Well I suppose they did lose a lot of records in the post-atomic horror.

Back to the Star Trek Voyager rewatch: s5 e22 “Someone to Watch Over Me” I'm guessing this is gonna be a “Three’s Company” episode full of awkward comedy and miscommunications. It’s by far my least favorite kind of plot for anything. *sigh*

Star Trek Prodigy season 2 (and season one for that matter) was delightful. Simplified for its audience, sure, but still solidly Trek at the core, and overflowing with talented artists. Genuinely a pity that Paramount can't see it...again.

DISCO season 4: answering the question, what if we made the computer an emotional trainwreck as well? I want to love you, DISCO. You don't make it easy.

I've said my peace on the things about DISCO that drive me crazy (despite me genuinely liking it) but the cavernous, wasted space on a starship always makes me hit pause until my eyes unroll.
