Progressives have openly said they will oppose funding unless these reforms are included, and that debate is actively slowing progress toward a final spending deal. I know lots of us feel like “my rep already knows” or “calling won’t change anything.” I’ve seen multiple staffers emphasize that constituent contact really matters at moments like this, even if a member seems locked in. People can — and should — call every day, and staffers listen. Republicans calls their members of congress eight times more than democrats. We need them to hear our side!You don’t have to love calling (I don’t!). You can even call after hours to just leave a message. I live in ______. I’m a constituent and I want you to oppose any DHS funding bill that doesn’t include strong guardrails on ICE’s enforcement practices.” [Include why you care]You can also ask for things like a full investigation into how ICE uses deadly force and limits on militarized tactics — those are part of the conversation in Congress right now.
