Ugh looks like a sell out to gut the climate law is forming up as legislators seek cover to knuckle under to the governor. Why would you kill the court order & lawsuit enforcing the law on a promise to act from a governor that already broke promises and ignored that very law? 🧵

Zohran Mamdani said he's going to start taxing rich people who buy luxury housing in NYC but don't actually live in there, and the former CEO of Twitter/X called it "actually one of the scariest things I have ever seen."

"Under the existing tax code, an Upper West Side building with 16 apartments had an annual tax bill of $50,000 in 2017. After it was converted [into a single-family home] the levies dropped to just $12,000." 🤦

"'We’re trying to recreate the suburban house in the city,' says Harris, who added that when they get calls from brokers these days, 'they’re often looking for two adjacent houses.'" And we're just letting them! JFC. Great article, gift link.

It really is fascinating how overt it now is that there are certain - really not controversial - ideas that you aren’t allowed to say on television.

The decision that upheld the legality of zoning is 100 years old this year. While it was probably part of a long-forgotten coursepack, I have no memory ever reading it before today. Worthwhile. Village of Euclid v. Ambler Realty Co.

Without Jocelyn Strauber and the Department of Investigation, Eric Adams might still be mayor and Zohran Mamdani a state Assembly member.

Hochul stopped NYSDEC from issuing GHG cap-and-invest rules, as required by NYS law. They got sued, and the court has ruled NYS must follow the law. We'll see if it holds up on appeal, but happy to see NYS courts paying attention.
