With H.E. Daniel Westlén, State Secretary of Sweden, we discussed resource mobilization, the importance of progress in achieving #Target18 of the #KMGBF and the need for engagement with finance ministers for whole-of-government action #ForNature and in the context of #COP17Armenia preparations.

Conferring with H.E. Jóhann Páll Jóhannsson, Minister of the Environment, Energy and Climate of Iceland in Copenhagen, we discussed #COP17Armenia, cooperation with the #BBNJ Agreement and land use in harmony with nature. Iceland is encouraged to ratify the two Protocols to the CBD.

Honoured to meet with H.E. Bahodur Sheralizoda, Chair of the Committee for Environmental Protection of Tajikistan, at #RES2026. We discussed resource mobilization and progress on Target 18 of the #KMGBF (harmful subsidies). Looking forward to the revised #NBSAP of Tajikistan in September.

Honoured to confer with H.E. Huang Runqiu, Minister of Ecology and Environment of China, at #RES2026. Meeting with the Turkmenistan delegation to #RES2026 led by H.E. Ovezgeldi Goshdjanov, Minister of Environmental Protection, we explored how @unbiodiversity.bsky.social can support the #KMGBF implementation. A fresh National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan #NBSAP will be published this year.

At #RES2026 H.E.Vahagn Khachaturyan, President of the Republic of Armenia, called for scaling up efforts to protect and sustainably use biodiversity, and invited participants to #COP17Armenia. COP 17 will focus on the accelerated implementation of the #KMGBF for people and nature.

At #RES2026 the discussion with H.E. Akyl Toktobayev, Minister of Natural Resources, Ecology and Technical Supervision of Kyrgyzstan, focused on how #COP17Armenia and the Bishkek+25 Summit (2027) can help bolster mountain countries' action on biodiversity loss and climate change.

Conferring with Justice Antonio Benjamin of the High Court of Brazil at #CMSCOP15, we discussed the role of the judiciary in translating intergovernmental commitments into national action-- including in halting and reversing biodiversity loss through the #KMGBF implementation.

In a meeting with H.E. @marinasilvaoficial.bsky.social and the delegation of Brazil, the Host Country of #CMSCOP15, we discussed the importance of weaving finance & fiscal considerations, including reducing harmful subsidies, into whole-of-government policies that deliver for people and #ForNature.

At #CMSCOP15, a high-level panel addressed the role of wetlands in sustaining migratory routes. The #KMGBF is catalyzing coordination with @ramsar.org, @cms.int and other Biodiversity-related conventions for coherent implementation and progress towards our common goals.
