ATTENTION CANADIAN POLICYMAKERS, LET'S INVEST IN OUR KNOWLEDGE ECONOMY, RESEARCH, AND UNIVERSITIES

Any such request is not only unethical, it is a violation of privacy laws. It’s tiresome to see American style attacks on EDI being taken up by Canadian politicians. Equity, diversity and inclusion are hallmarks of Canadian society and should be celebrated and emulated.

The Canadian Parliamentary Standing Committee on Science and Research is launching a US-style attack on EDI in Tri-Council funding. As part of this attack, they are demanding disclosure of confidential demographic info + reviewer comments of all Canadian researchers who have applied b/w 2000-2025.

It should go without saying that the disclosure of personal demographic information that was promised confidentiality to a government committee by the Tri-Council would be the most fundamental breach of ethics and pose a genuine danger to the safety of Canadian researchers.

We're concerned about the SRSR motion requesting 25 years of disaggregated tri-council data. While we understand the data is intended to be anonymized, this wasn't explicitly stated in the motion – and the specific information requested could still enable re-identification when linked together.

Why would this committee invite, or even quote, professor of marketing, podcasts, and Islamophobia expansion Gad Saad, who as far as I can tell by searching the funding databases hasn't received any tri-council funding (at least going back to 2000)
