Welcome to the bi-weekly #CleanTechEU thread! 🧵This week we’re diving into Zero-Emission Construction Sites #ZECS. Did you know the construction sector is a major, yet often overlooked, source of greenhouse gas #emissions and urban air #pollution in Europe?

1/ The #EU Commission's recent assessment shows that instead of increasing by 42 MtCO₂e by 2030, as set out in the #LULUCF regulation, the EU’s natural sinks may actually shrink by 3 to 18 MtCO₂e. This substantial gap has serious implications for the EU's #climateneutrality ambitions.

In this comment, I argue for why reaching land-based climate targets is crucial for reaching climate neutrality targets altogether and how they can be achieved - by focusing on how biomass is consumed and implementing new policy measures to bring biomass consumption to sustainable levels.
